Since long long ago, people handed down the culture and skillsfrom one generation to another to preserve their history, in hope that theiroffsprings who decided the future, would well inherited and improve. No matterhow brilliant the work one generation does, it is their children who determinethe future. Unfortunately, however, as pioneers, people in our time, have notlearned how to cultivate and help the young to build a better society.

For one thing, that those days, people always have a strongand dreary commitment to material things. Not only the local urban residents, but also immigrants from countryside flooding to cities, all are crazy aboutthe fancy life of materials. As a result, as the first and one the mostessential teachers of their off-springs, adults send an attempting yet wrongmessage to the young, and make them seriously believe that love of comfort aswell as mean ambitions, are the solitary goal they will seek when grown up.Such consequences are easy to be found, and we only have to turn to some factsbetween school children in Shanghai, China. An authority on education has madea census indicating that over 70% of students take ‘how rich the family is’ asa standard for choosing a friend. Sadder still, the percentage is on the trendof growing.

For another thing, busy work and high pressure have taken andare taking more of parent’s patience and care away from children. On one hand, citizens are forced to stay away from their children more and more, since theincreasing working hours. It has astonishingly rised from 8 hours to 15 hours aday on average in Tokyo during the past 15 years. On the other hand, as agrowing number of peasants drop down their hoes on their farmland, and pick uphammers on the city construction site, the education problem of children theyleft in the hometown, becomes one of the top priority of China. Even one didnot hear from concrete examples—“left behind” children are placed on high risksof depression and anti-society, one could deduce it from general principles.

However, though we cannot deny our deficit in educating theyoung, we cannot stop our steps and efforts solving these rubs. As peopleliving in developed country are trying to lower the over-pursuits of materialthings, and most large cities in developing countries, say China, are busilyengaged in building education infrastructures, such as day care centers, kindergartensand elementary schools, there is still hope that we will educate ouroff-springs and guide them to build a better society in the near future.

In a nutshell, though we are not providing a satisfactoryatmosphere for the children—the devotion to material things as well as the lackof care and patience, we are working ourselves into the right way over efforts.
