No.50: in order to improve the quality of instruction at colledge and university level ,all fauclty should be required to spend timeworking outside the academic world in professiona relevant to the courses the teach.


Undoubtedly, in university or college, the fauclty, or the teachers, play a vital role in education. Their capability to attract the students and their ability to instruct the students largely determine whether their students can be well cultured or not. Nowadays, a growing number of pedagogues are spending more and more time outside their academic word. Some opponents believe that their distraction of their base job is unreasonable, considering that the activities occupy plenty of their time that should be used in preparing their classes. However, Opposed to their viewpoint is my idea that their participations in the activities outside their academic world do not lead to a poorer quality of their teacher, but rather a more comprehensive and insightful one.

Admittedly, the knowledge of a pedagogue in their academic world is essential in their teaching. This is really critical in some academic majors like mathematics or philosophy, where both the teachers and students should spend most of their time in thinking and exchanging ideas. Own to the fact that much research in those majors is remarkably surpass current peoples' knowledge and laity outside their major understand nothing about what they think, thereby providing less help for the teachers or students to improve themselves. Hence, rather than spending lots of time outside their academic world, concentrating on their inner research is more appropriate for the teachers.

However, for most of other majors, activities outside of their academic are indispensable. First, with the dramatically fast speed of our society development, the upgrade of the knowledge are extremely fast, resulting in the requirement for people to abandon lots of their obsolete viewpoints and accept plenty of new ones. However, as students, they can not perceive the change and development of our society as quickly as their pedagogues, who have more chances to communicate with the elites of our society and have more opportunities to understand the development of our society. In consequence, the teachers should serve as a bridge that connects the students inside the small campus and the talents outside the university. Participating in a variety of activities is believed to be one of the most suitable and effective ways to understand more about out society and then can transfer them to their students, hence increasing their quality of teaching.

Second, being aware of the importance of imparting the students about the situation of our society is insufficient. The teachers' approaches and ability to require the students, especially the modern students who are not as persuasible as before, to listen to them are also significant. How to attract the attention of students nowadays becomes one of the issues among teachers. Some surveys among university students indicate that only those instructors who are knowledgeable and resourceful enough can captivate them to listen to their courses. In my opinion, by participating in many activities outside their academic world enable the pedagogues to understand more about the minds of their students, to know the requirement of their students and to learn the methods to attract the attention of their students. For example, they can play football with their students to make friends with them, join in some parties organized by their students to communicate with them and to take part in some forum about how to teach their students. Those activities are considerable helpful for the teachers to learn more about their students and ameliorate their quality of education.

To recapitulate, except the pedagogues in some majors where thinking is paramount should concentrate themselves in their academic world, many teachers should participate in various of activities outside their academic world partially because they are required to inform their students the new information about the development of our society, and partially because they are required to improve their ability to captivate their students' attention.
