According to this statement, students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study rather than accept it passively. In my view, although undue skepticism might be harmful to one's world view, I strongly agree with this statement. Otherwise, human beings always pace up and down in the same place if we have no question to the reason of doing this. Obviously, the damage which is brought about by it is more than undue skepticism does.

First of all, skepticism is inherent which is a gift god gave. When we were little kids, the world was so strange that it was filled of questions to us, "why can the birds fly", "why is the word spelled in this way", ect. In my opinion this is most important in one's life. Without these questions, a man is unable to build his moral sense which is significant for his whole future. Life itself is a process of cognizing the world, in which we live, learn and work with doubts. As human beings, we always summarize the experience of something occurred by our side, even if the conclusion is contortive. In other words, every principle is entirely correct at the begining, only through skepticism and amender of several generations, the principle is able to be basically correct.

Simply put, without skepticism, our society would find itself bogged down in phase that we are stagnant. No one would be doubtful of current law, policy, system, principle, etc. What such a fearful world it is, that I cannot imagine with a quiet mood. Obedience and only obedience is the unique thing people do, and persons are not so much obedient as operated. Although the above-mentioned case is very extreme, it informs us in advance that the loss of skepticism means that we have a diminished sense of our freedom.

On the other hand, undue skepticism might be counterproductive for one's cognition. A nice skepticism is established on some sound reasons. In other words, a suspicion can become a correct skepticism only if it has warrantable reasons, otherwise it cannot be anything but bigotry. While a man is suspicious of society, family, companion, and is doubtful of truth, goodness and beauty in the world, I could only think he is deranged. Undue skepticism causes a person to sink into loss of intellectual bearings.

In conclusion, without skepticism, society becomes stagnant and unprogressive. Without skepticism, individuals become hidebound and become a puppet. Moreover, whether the skepticism is correct is equally important to us. Human beings should keep a reasonable skepticism to whatever they contact.
