116.The following appeared in a memo from Grocery Town's regional manager.

"The new Grocery Town store in Elm City, located near a new residential
development, has a 'high-low' pricing policy where average prices are
relatively high, but deep discounts are offered on some items in weekly
specials. This store has been showing increased profits every month as the
nearby residential development gets closer to full capacity. It follows
that people prefer a pricing policy where they can find bargains on
specific items. Since there is a new residential development planned in
Oak City, we should change the pricing policy at all of our Oak City
stores from our current 'everyday low prices' policy to a 'high-low'
policy. This will increase the profits at all of our stores in Oak City."

In this argument ,the arguer advercats that all of stores in the
new resdential development of Oak City should change the policy of price from the ‘every day low prices ‘to the ‘high-low ‘policy.To support the point ,the arguer enumerates some evidences to substantiate it ;first the new grocery town store in Elm City has the high-low policy ,which shows the increased profits every month ,and that implys that people prefer a pricing policy where they can find bargains on specific items.The augument is fraught with some fallacies .





On the first place ,does Oak city change the pricing policy from every day low price to high-low price of all stores in
the new residantial development ,which lead to increased profits?The arguer doesn’t give us enough information to expound it ,on the contrary ,the arguer just guesses its possibility depending on the the new grocery town store‘s contemperary situation .As we know that
although this store has shown the increased profits by using the high-low pricing policy,it couldn’t indicate that this factor results from the pricing policy or people prefer to find bargins .Its success may be born of the wise means of management ,such as the good service attitude and the high quality of commodities ,and so forth .What’s more ,the store has increased profits withing more and more people moving in .However ,the arguer fails to tell us when the new residencial development gets full capacity ,does the store maintain the same feat ,and
how about four or five years later ?Maybe in the future the store will suffer from that no any consumer to come because of the high-low pricing policy in the economic recession.



In the second place ,even if the high-low policy is the dominant factor of increased profits in the new grocery town store ,it wouldn’t suggest that the policy still be suitable for Oak city.These two city have many differences such as population ,customs and financial market .For instance ,the people in the new residencial development in Elm city are much richer than people of Oak city ,so that people in Oak city can not afford the goods in the high-low policy stores.Perhaps,If the stores of new residencial development stick to change to high-low policy ,the aftermath might be horrible that no one come to shop .Finally ,those stores are impossible to increase profits instead of reduce revenues .


In sum ,to prove that the new residencial development stores in Oak city ,change the every day low policy to high-low policy,the arguer should give us more information about the long-term development direction of Oak city and the people’s advices of this change agenda in Oak city.
