"Schools should be required to teach the essentialinterconnectedness of all human beings and thus help eliminate wars, culturalclashes, and other forms of conflict."

It is a great time when connections for allcorners of world become even more intimate for the cause of prosperity. However, it remains a bad time when wars, cultural conflicts stab the heart ofunderstanding and violate the pursuit of common wealth. Then some educatorsevoke, “Only by instructing our children about global interconnectedness can weestablish a harmonious future!" Can we really achieve this goal?

In fact, essential interconnectedness isnecessary when we deal with human conflicts. Gandhi unfettered the new India becauseof his care and love for Indians from all courses of life. Mundell put out theeconomic alliance plan that changed classic notion of a country, for hisgeneral insight of European situation. South and North Korea might not talk withoutknowing that under the opposite system of society they may share common originsculture and living values. Great miracle can not go alone without mutualunderstanding.

But on the other side, is inadequate interconnectednessthe source of warfare, cultural conflicts? It seems the endless conflictsbetween the borders of Pakistanand Israelresult from their opposite beliefs. It looks like Bush commanded the invasioninto Iraqfor the expansion of freedom of American Dreams. It tends to be case thatdifferent origins and values should be blamed for conflicts of our society. Tosome extent, lack of understanding of exotic culture and effectivecommunication can be attributed for these human sadness. Then there comes aquestion, will we waste tremendous time and money harming others merely forassimilating these innocent people into exactly the same belief, values, andlife style as we have? As Adam Smith put it, men act in the interests of theirown.

Behind the cause of war always lie theinterests of dominating group. The territorial disputes are largely accountedfor cross-border hostility both in the flows of history and situations in thereal world. Competitions for limit while crucial resource is always the firstconsideration when forming military strategies. Social problems likediscrimination, gender inequality and immigrant-repelling are most likely theresult of the unequal financial status. These dissonances of human society willmitigate if we have a better understanding for others, but will never vanishunless problems concerning both individual and group interests are solved. Whywould a soldier, whose priority is to protect his nation, fire arms if noviolating of national interest occurs? Why would we invade others for theirbelongings if these properties are plenty and cheap domestically? Why would wereject a neighbor if they are economically superior and friendly to us, eventhough he is a foreigner?

Whereas, it is the pursuit for commoninterest that converges us together. Discussions on global environmental issueswould never have reached current depth involving such record large scale ofcountries, if it hadn't been for the rising sea level and extreme climatethreatening every earth residents. Only in the face of worldwide crisis liketoday's financial crisis will governments extend to each other to bring out a synchronicstimulus. These times are times when wars and cultural clashes are less likelyto happen, because common interest have so outweighed individual one thatpeople are forced to cooperate and understand mutually. Therefore, in terms ofeliminating warfare, cultural clashes and other human conflicts, instructionson understanding of global common interests, such as environmental protection, economic globalizing, freedom for world trading,
solving border dispute through peacefulmeans, equal rights and respects for all individuals, and the notion of earthvillage may come more effective rather than essential instructions oninterconnectedness.

To sum up, in spiteof the benefits of mutual connectedness on mitigating conflicts in humansocieties, indoctrinating more human’s common interest into our children’s consciousnessis the key for a more harmonious future
