1The following appeared in a memorandum written by the vice president of Nature's Way, achain of stores selling health food and other health-related products.
"Previous experience has shown that our stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. We should therefore build our next new store in Plainsville, which has many such residents. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club, which nearly closed five years ago due to lack of business, has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. We can even anticipate a new generation of customers: Plainsville's schoolchildren are required to participate in a 'fitness for life' program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age."
According to the argument, the arguer asserts that his company should build their next new store in Plainsville. To substantiate his contestation, the arguer provides the
evidence that residents in Plainsville are highly concerned with leading healthy lives and the statistics residents in Plainsville spend the exercise and sports highly. At first glance, the claim seems to be reasonable, further reflection reveals that the conclusion is unconvincing and problematic and the evidence cited in the argument suffers form several critical fallacies as discussed as below.

To begin with, the arguer unfairly assumes that their stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives and maintain that residents in Plainsville highly concern with leading healthy lives. The argument is based on a false analogy. That the residents highly concerned with leading healthy lives does not stand for they admit the effect of the health food. For instance, some ladies and some old are concerned with leading healthy lives but do not admit the effect of the health food, they usually prefer to take exercise rather than buy health food. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that the residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. such as some women to take exercise is not that for health just for beautiful and slender, some people for losing some weight. So the arguer fail to investigate the attitude of the residents towards the health food and health.

the statistic provided by the arguer is vulnerable and the cause is vague. Firstly about

the case that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs, it is fairly possible that the business cut down the price of the running shoes and exercise
clothing or that it is a fashion for the residents. The investigation of the local health
club is not sufficient, Perhaps it is also cut down the price for the members and the members of other clubs are rare and reduced. Therefore, it can not confirm that the members of all the resident club are more than before. Additionally, the cause of the situation that the weight training and aerobics classes are always full is not clear. Perhaps, the price is lower than before or residents pursue slim or the convenience to recognize others. Lets us analyse another evidence cited by the author. the investigation of Plainsville's schoolchildren are required to participate in a 'fitness for life' program can not illustrate that schoolchildren are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. Maybe, they are required but they do not concern the health. Even if they concern the health , probably, they can not afford the health food.

Even though residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives and admit the efforts of the health food, possibly, they can not afford the health food because of high price of the health food. the arguer provides that their stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives, It is fairly possible that the residents of these areas have high revenue. However, the author does not consider the earning of the Plainsville's residents.

Finally, suppose that the Plainsville's residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives and will to buy the health food. Nonetheless, the element of the profit is various. The cost of the stores,
the competition of other businesses, the affect of the brand and so on. The author fails to take in to account all the critical factors in the analysis. Without considering and eliminating other possible factors that impact the outcome, I simply cannot accept the author's conclusion.

To summarize, the evidence cited in the argument is vulnerable and invalid and the

conclusion is ill conceived and poorly supported. To bolster the argument, more accurate investigation and analysis are needed. To better assess the argument, the author should provide more information to eliminate all the above-mentioned possibilities.
