I think it depends on your financial situation. If you have money to pay tuition for MS degree, you should consider more about adding your value and knowledge which will contribute to your future success. If you have not enough money, working for money is not a so bad idea. Btw, it is illegal to work as F2. You must think it over. Many program is comparatively cheap. And the school(MS) does not count so much when hunting jobs. (Except MBA, etc)

Try to contact the program coordinator or dean, that may help.

Good luck. And Economics Ph.D. is not easy to get offer.
