Individuals are actually influenced by society's ideas and values. The author in this statement asserts that through observing the appearance and behavior of its people, it is readily to realize the society's values and ideas since human's attitude and interests determine their looks, dress and activities. I agree with reserve from my own experience and point of view. Admittedly, we could define the person approximately through his or her external appearance. However, it is hard to identify an individual accurately and objectively only by that way. Several other factors should be taken into account by us to tell about a society's ideas and values.

For several distinguished people, their outlook and dress can disclose sorts of their attitudes and interests indeed. And the dressing of people who from one sole group share some common characteristics in general circumstance. Considering, for example, most of the professors in colleges or universities dress themselves in simplicity style like suitcase, business suits and spectacles. On the contrary, rock singers always wear magnificently and gorgeously to attracting audience's attention. It is rare to find a professor dress similar to a rock singer. In that situation, dressing style could reveal an individual's attitude and likes more or less.

However, as the Chinese ancient sentence: human could not be identified through his or her outer appearance. It is impossible to recognize ones internal mind from external behavior. First of all, several people do not care their dress or appearance. Perhaps a Wall Street tycoon wears too simple that lead you to misunderstand him or her as an ordinary worker. Steven always wears economical shirt and jeans when he giving presentation to public. Those spectators who have no idea about him may unable to recognize him as the president of Apple Corporation. Aside from that, the parts of people are limited by objective matters such as school law, ritual restriction or social custom. For instance, students are demanded to wear uniform when they in high school. As the consequence, students cannot perform their personalities by the way they dress.

In addition, as I said above, it is unfair to tell about a society's ideas and value by observing the behavior and appearance of its people. Experience informs me that values are the perspective and assessment of meaning and importance of objectivity for an individual, group or culture. In China, for example, college professors are more highly honored than successful businessman, in part because the society values education and erudition more than wealth. It is saying that one day as my teacher, and I should respect him as my father for my entire life. In another country, it may in a different condition. In other words, values tell members of a society how people should be and how society should be.

In sum, external behavior and appearance of the members of the society only reveal its values and ideas partially but not thoroughly since the limitation and restriction. We need to study more about its culture, language, and history to understand its values and ideas.
