Many teachers assign homework to students every day. Do you think that daily homework is necessary for students? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

All of us grew up from a child, and the childhood memory of doing homework everyday is so deep in mind. Most of us used to complain about the heavy work load after class, and I was no exception. But today, when it's my turn to show my idea about daily homework, I still should say, daily homework is definitely an essential part for students.

As a saying goes, practice makes perfect. The class offers us a chance to learn, and necessary practice should be given to reinforce what we've learnt. We need to put the theoretical thing into practice, and only in this way can we know it better. Actually, most of what we learn at school is the research results discovered hundreds of years ago, and little creativity is needed while learning. Through sufficient practice, we can understand what we learnt in different ways and get familiar with it.

According to a psychological research, we might merely remember half of what we learnt the day before, but a review can effectively prevent us from forgetting. So homework, which helps us to review the knowledge we gained, is just thing in need.

On the other hand, homework is a way to show the students’ talent, creativity, and also a test for
the students to check how well they have learnt. Many stufents really worked out some good stuff , like a good novel, a good picture, etc, when doing homework. The homework gives students a chance to show how talented they are and helps them to check whether they have reached the learning goal of the class.

Of course, assigning homework in inapproperiate ways might do harms to students, like assigning too much more difficult homework than what the students can stand, which is both physically and mentally harmful for students. However, as a necessity in the process of learning, proper homework should never be eliminated.

People can benefit more from traveling in their own country than traveling to foreign countries.

As an old Chinese saying goes, it’s better to travel tens of thousands of miles rather than read tens of thousands of books. With the improvement of life, what people pursue is more than material purposes. As a result, travelling becomes an increasingly popular choice for holidays. To benefit more from the tour, I believe travelling abroad is a much better choice than at home.
To begin with, travelling abroad broadens our sights. When we are in our own country, we are used to our own culture, and people do things in similar ways. Our routine life confined us to a small circle that sometimes we cannot get a clear insight of what happens around us. However, when we are abroad, we would meet with lot of confusing but helpful culture shocks. If we try to think in the way foreigners think, we might get a brand new view of a problem. Take one of my American friends who teaches in China as an example. When she first came to China, she was confused about why so many Chinese adults live with their parents. “It’s not common in the US, ” she says, “I mean, an adult lives with his or her parents. ” In China, it’s an old tradition that the old should be taken care of by their children, though today, the “only-child policy” makes taking care of the old by their only child difficult. But in the US, a country which encourages giving birth to children, taking care of the old by the children might be feasible, and this might be a new solution for the living problems of the old in US.
In addition, travelling abroad, if to advanced countries, helps us to know more about the newest technologies and consequentially, helps to predict future trends . I grew up in a small low-tech city, and when I went a big city in junior high, I was so surprised at the automatic tap, from which water comes out as soon as I put my hands under it, in KFC. It was so high-tech for me at that time, just like something in a science fiction. And I believe today, if travelling to a developed country, we can also discover something as fantastic as the automatic tap at that time. It will help us to predict the trend in the future, guiding us to the blue sea and freeing us from extremely fierce competition in choosing a job or doing business.
Furthermore, in a totally different environment, it would be easier for us to relax ourselves. It’s well known that travelling helps us to forget about the unhappy experience, and when we are in a totally new place, it works even better. We don’t have to worry about being disturbed by the people we know, and have plenty of time to think about life quietly as well as have fun freely. Since familiar environments would rise our momeries of our past life, it prevents us from forgetting what is upsetting us. Thus, travelling to a foreign country and get a fresh breath there might be a good choice for people seeking freedom.
To sum up, I believe people can benefit more from the travelling experience abroad rather than in their own country. It is an excellent way to get refreshed and produce inspirations of life.

自我感觉比前两篇有进步,不知大家会不会这样觉得...
412Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A teacher who is a serious and strict person is more effective in teaching than a teacher who is a humor and easygoing person.

When talking about teachers, I believe that everyone of us have a lot of words to say. We met with all kinds of teachers at school – serious ones, humorous ones, strict ones, as well as easygoing ones. Which ones do you think are more effective? For different people, the answer might vary, but I firmly believe that humorous and easygoing teachers are more effective than serious and strict ones.

To make the classes effective, one of the most important factors is to inspire the students’ interest in the subject. A humorous teacher, who makes the class full of happiness, plays a vital role in developing the students’ interest in learning. Jokes from a humorous teacher can leave a deep impression in the students’ mind, and whenever the students remembers the jokes, they will remember what have been taught in the class. The funny jokes and the knowledge taught are so closely related that what have been taught in class becomes a source of happiness for the students, thus, the students will become increasingly willing to study.

Another reason is a humorous and easygoing teacher can provide a friendly learning atmosphere for students. With a humorous and easygoing teacher, students feel not so much pressed and, thus, can develop a positive attitude to learning. In the long run, it might play a role in the shaping of one’s character and nature, as well as influence one’s attitude towards life. A strict teacher, who pushes the students to learn, might scare the students with an extremely heavy workload and bury a seed of anxiety in the students' hearts, leaving an unpleasant effect on the students' future life.

In addition, an easygoing teacher is helpful in developing the most suitable way of learning of each student. People are born different – some are good at math, and some think learning languages is easy; some are good at memorize things by reading, and some think writing helps memorizing a lot. If we require everyone to copy an article to help them memorize the its content, it might be effective for someone, but might be a waste of time for someone as well. A strict teacher often makes rules – though it might work for some students, it might not be suitable for everyone. Those who are not used to these rules might have a feeling of being not good at this subject and, thus, their interest might be destroyed. However, a easygoing teacher would not put so much pressure on students. Students can work in their most efficient ways and would not worry about being blamed because of not finishing the task that the teacher assign, as long as s/he achieves the goal of learning.

Though, with a strict teacher, students are pushed to study and have to spend time on learning, the efficient might not necessarily be high, and in the long run, the results might not be good for students. A humorous and easygoing teacher can help students to develop a good learning style with a desire for knowledge, a positive mentality to study, and a suitable way of learning; while a strict and serious teacher devastates the students’ interest in learning, leaves the students in the sea of worries and makes the students just like robots. In one word, humorous and easygoing teachers are far more effective than strict and serious ones in teaching.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Children should only play sports for fun, not in competition or contests.

Sports, as is known to all, plays a vital role in the shaping of one’s physique, mentality and fitness. There is no wonder why so many parents and teachers encourage the children to play sports, however, whether children should play sports for fun or in competitions is really a topic worth discussing. As for me, I strongly insist that children should not only play sports for fun, but also in competition and contests.

For many children, playing sports is not only a way to exercise, but also a way to socialize. So what children gain from sports should not only be a strong body, but also an understanding of how to make a living in the current world. Though competition might result in fear, hostility, or even cheat, which we do not hope to see; it is a well-known truth that people have to live in a highly competitive world. Competition is a peoblem, but we cannot avoid it; so what we should do is to develop the children’s sense of competiton and teach them how to succeed in competition. Thus, sports contests, as a good way to learn about competition and the truth of life, should be held for children.

Another reason why children should play sports in contests is, contests can make the children work harder on it, and thus, more good sportsmen/women or teams might appear. If children just play sports for fun, they might not take it seriously; but if there is a contest, they would have a clear goal of winning. Goals might lay pressure on people, but they are always sources of passion and motivation. If there are not any sports contest, there would be not so many people who work hard on the sports they play, and their potantial might not be fully showed.

In addition, contests, as well as the process of preparing for the contests, are fun. When we talk about playing for fun, we usually mean that we do not play seriously and do not care about the results. However, if we play seriously, there is another sort of enjoyment – we try our best to practise, exercise and cooperate, and quick improvements fuels our confidence and feelings of fulfillment every day. No matter we win or lose in the contest, we have made progress both mentally and physically at least. The experience with full devotion can be a long-lasting fortune for our life. So why shall we deprive our children of this kind of experience?

Competition is an important ingredient of life, as well as sports. To give our children a full experience, we should encourage them to play sports, and especially, to play in contests – there is no doubt that competition helps a lot in one’s mental and physical development.
