TOPIC: ISSUE118 - "In any field of endeavor-the sciences, the humanities, the social sciences, industry, etc.-it is not the attainment of a goal that matters, but rather the ideas and discoveries that are encountered on the way to the goal."

The attainment of goals and discoveries coexist all through the human history.Since apes discovered fire and the idea of using fire to burn meat sparked , humanbeings had learned to discover and engender new ideas and applied to the pratical life.It's the idea of making our lives more efficient made people engender the conception of cars , boats and planes.At the same time , human took pains to interpret their ideal dream , especialy consider the facts that the trials of making a plane has taken a number of daring plane inventors'lives.As the saying goes:no one can casually succeed.Though the achievement is not easy and sometime dangerous , because of our continued fighting ,we can now fly across the Pacific Ocean that ancient peole who can hardly imagine though they had a common flying dream.It's clealy that both ideas/discoveries and attainment of goals are equally important in the human progress that lacking either of them we cannot fufill our dreams and have better lives.

The importance of ideas and discoveries are obvious.Take our daily used machine---computer for example.The idea of the invention of computer was the military use of the federal government.Without the need , no one would struggle to creat.The following discovery of transitors made the first huge computer smaller in size.And the world has benefits a lot  from the idea of integrated circuit which has made computer accessible to ordinary families.It is the the ideas and discoveries emergaed on the way to our goal keeps our goal go further and contributes more to the field of information industry as well as the quality of our lives.However , the idea of creating computer cannot be realized if we do not try hard to attain it.The success of computer involved inevitable effort to the goal.To assembled the first computer , engineers must weld 18000 electrons , 7000 resisiters including 5 million soldered joins.No matter how great the idea is , no computer would be invented without our practical sacrifise.Further , though we discovered the possible use of the idea of transisitors , the transisitor-based computer would not be created without the achievement of the first computer.

In conclusion , attainment of a goal related more to our endeavor while the idea and discovery related more to our future success.As a reslut , to pursuit long-term success , both attainment of present goal and creative ideas are significant.What is noteworthy is that the attainment of goals makes room and land for the emerge of creative ideas or discoveries and the creative ideas set a new stage for our attainment.This process reflect the progress of human from ancient times to 21st centuries we are now living.
