TOPIC: ISSUE153 - "Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question
what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."
WORDS: 562

Should we students bring a certain skepticism to whatever we learn? The speaker claim so for the reason that  through this way can we  learn actively rather than passively. I concede that skepticism is a  key to study, critical thinking and innovation. Otherwise, undue  skepticism, as the speaker asserts so, would diminish our interest in  acquiring new knowledge and finally impede learning.
To begin with, skepticism is certainly a driving force in the scientific areas. Scientific research, in itself, is an exploration of unknown for true answers to our question, and for lasting solutions to our enduring problems. However, it is  hardly to find such a lasting solution in the sciences. With the rapid development and further understanding of a specific project, many once correct principles are proven to be ill-conceived and limited ones. In fact, it is primarily through such consistent skepticism that human acknowledge advances. One apt illustration of this point involves the  three laws of motion created by Issac Newton. Admittedly, it  is the three laws of motion that set up the foundation of modern physics, considering a myraid of other physical principles and laws are  deduced from them and countless physical experiments are essentialy the reflection of themselves. The big three seemed to dominate the physical academic area forever becuase no one dare to question its  validity and relevance because of its long establishment and startling authority. This situation did not come to the end until the presence of Albert Einstein, with his "Relativity" theory, which claims thatAlthough the three laws of motions work well in most cases, its practicality and functionality are dubious and susceptible when it comes to the research of micro world. In this respect, Albert  Einstein turned a new page of the modern physic study by question the once undisputable study.
On the other hand, however, undue skepticism would be counterproductive to learning. Because skepticism or critical thinking are beneficial only if the skeptic has got enough understanding of  the object to which he or she bring a certain skepticism. Otherwise,  people risk squandering valuable time and energy. For instances, pupils learn little about algorithm by doubting the correctness of  their math teacher. Or a student knows little about the movement of  planets by querying the validity of his or her science textbook. Understandably, students with undue skepticism would learn nothing meaningful and would even lose their confidence and interest in learning, for the very reason that they are very likely to suspect anything, even themselves, all of which lead to chaotic and inconsistent mind. To be more specifically, had our doctors suspected and refused to  accept the ''circulation of blood' theory created by AV , we would have  to sleep in the bed and wait for the impending death ,once we got a  serious disease, since there are no surgeon or pharmacology derived from that theory. In other words, we can not and should not place  skepticism ahead of our desire for new knowledge. Yet the intent of  skepticism is to analyze a possible new theory more comprehensively in order to accept it or deny it more certainly.
In sum, skepticism, as well as critical thinking, is beneficial as long as the skeptic has adequate background knowledge and deep understanding of the ''suspectible'' object. Otherwise, skepticism, the spirit of a seemingly active learning process would serve to be a path way to agnosticism.

TOPIC: ISSUE153 - "Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question

WORDS: 562

Should we students bring a certain skepticism to whatever we learn? The speaker
claim [claims]so for the reason that through this way can we
learn actively rather than passively.

However, it is hardly [hardly是很少的意思,貌似hard更好?]to find such a lasting solution in the sciences. With the rapid development and further understanding of a specific project, many once correct principles [好别扭。。。principles that are once correct]are proven to be ill-conceived and limited ones. In fact, it is primarily through such consistent skepticism that human acknowledge [acknowledge是承认的意思。。。]advances. One apt illustration of this point involves the three laws of motion created by Issac Newton. Admittedly, it is the three laws of motion that set up the foundation of modern physics, considering a myraid [myriad,拼错了]of other physical principles and laws are
deduced from them and countless physical experiments are
essentialy [essentially
,拼错了]the reflection of themselves. The big three seemed to dominate the physical academic area forever becuase no one dare to question its validity and relevance because of its long establishment and startling authority. This situation did not come to the end until the presence of Albert Einstein, with his "Relativity" theory, which claims that although the three laws of motions work well in most cases, its practicality and functionality are dubious and susceptible when it comes to the research of micro world.

For instances,
pupils learn little about algorithm by doubting the correctness of their math teacher. Or a student knows little about the movement of planets by querying the validity of his or her science textbook. [
Understandably, students with undue skepticism would learn nothing meaningful [这句太绝对了吧,和上一段的论点矛盾了]and would even lose their confidence and interest in learning, for the very reason that they are very likely to suspect anything, [肯定句不用anything,改成everything]even themselves, all of which lead to chaotic and inconsistent mind. To be more specifically, had our doctors suspected and refused to accept the ''circulation of blood' theory created by AV, we would have to sleep in the bed and wait for the impending death ,once we got a serious disease, since there are no surgeon or pharmacology derived from that theory. 这个不行么?]In other words, we can not and should not place skepticism ahead of our desire for new knowledge. Yet the intent of skepticism is to analyze a possible new theory more comprehensively in order to accept it or deny it more certainly.

In sum, skepticism, as well as critical thinking, is beneficial as long as the skeptic has adequate background knowledge and deep understanding of the ''suspectible'' [拼错了, suspectable]object. Otherwise, skepticism, the spirit of a seemingly active learning process would serve to be a path way to agnosticism.
