Whether the highest ethical and moral standards must be maintained for people to be an effective leader?
I strongly agree with the statement of the issue. Maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards is crucial to a leader.
To begin with, the situation is that people prefer leader with higher ethical and moral in all ages, no matter what kind of form of leadership. In the business realm, many agree that they are in favor of leader who full fills his or her highest moral or ethical obligations, and working under this kind of leader. In the political realm, people believe that personal moral and ethical choices affect their ability to lead. Each instance occurs to us when we talk about great leader turns out to be people with highest ethical and moral, past and present.
That is a universal law that there must be something distinguished of an effective leader we ordinary can learn from.
Furthermore, effective leaders must have benefited a lot from their high ethical and moral standard. Firstly, maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards provides them with other people's confidence in return which is crucial to a leader. Since a leader cannot carry out whatever kind of plans without his or her subordinates' confidence in. Secondly, implementation capacity and cohesiveness of a leader mostly come from his or her high ethical and moral standards. A leader who is an ethical and moral model gets more people and other resources to stand by him or her, which are things just needed to be an effective leader. In the view of the above mentioned points, to be an effective leader, he or she will be very love to maintain the ethical and moral standard.
However, there are some leaders not so effective, after carefully self-reflection, they would find that their problems have its spring in their ethical and moral performances. There are so many great leaders meet their waterloo just after they made their minor mistakes in maintaining their ethical and moral standards. That is because leaders are in the public eye, and their one moment of carelessness may bring negative influence to their leadership. Consider the personal ethical failings of the President Bill Cliton. People may have not known completely about his affair with Monica Lewinsky, but things only to that extent are enough to affect his political career and make people forget his other contributions and suspect his effectiveness.
From the both side, we can generalize a conclusion that maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards is very crucial to a leader want to be effective. A leader should especially be careful to maintain his or her ethical and moral standards.
