The statement overstates the function of mistakes to our life and social development. Anyone will deny the great contribution to progress of society made by mistakes, while there may be other factors influencing the discovery and progress.


Admittedly, just as a saying goes "the success is born mistakes", we can learn a lot of lessons from the mistakes we have made. We often confront with adversity and difficulties in our life road so we make the mistakes unavoidably. However, as long as we face the mistakes correctly and deal with it properly, a great discovery or progress may be made. We all admire the greatness of genius, Einstein, who formulated the general and special relativity that revolutionized the concept of space and time. How does this progress come from? Of course, the diligence and talent of Einstein is requites. Moreover, the theory is based on the classical physics that founded by Newton. The classical theory doesn't work well when the subjects are operating with a high speed. From the limitation of Newton's theory, Einstein formulates the new theory which has a general application. The mistakes made by Newton contribute to the relativity theory. From this point of view, we can know the mistakes are helpful to the progress and new discovery.


However, that is not to say we should make mistakes as much as possible, although mistakes enable us to proceed. It is necessary to note that there are two kinds of mistakes we should discern. One is what we can't avoid with our ability, for these mistakes are limited to the developmental levels of that age and technology, just as the example of Newton. The other is one, we could avoid through our subjective endeavor and these mistakes may be due to careless and ignore. The former one is beneficial to our development as long as we deal with them with correct attitudes. We can learn lots of directions and instructions, which are helpful to improvement of society and nation. But the later one should be avoided with our effort, for these mistakes only hider the progress of life and they provide no beneficial guidance to our society.


Actually, there are many other factors neglected by the speaker which also contribute to the discovery and progress. For instance, we can be earnest and concentrate on the research or study with great effort to avoid the second kind of mistakes mentioned above to achieve the final success. Also a number of valuable qualities such as diligence, persistence, right method to solve the problems will account to the new discovery and progress. In our daily life, we can make our full effort to concentrate on one issue, solving the problems without mistakes.


Finally, what I want to say is that the mistakes itself can not contribute to our development and discovery, the key point lie in how we confront with the mistakes and what we learn from these mistakes. Moreover, we should aware of other factor other than mistakes still can help us make great discovery and progress, such as diligence, persistence and scientific method.

嗯，我就说感觉了哈，主题句可以考虑重新精写。这道题怎么看都是事实类的题，应该着眼在讨论，是不是只有失败才能进步，如果不是，应该举反例来推翻吧，可是几乎没有一个稍微展开的例子来证明。。。。。如果举不出适当的反例，至少要理由论证吧。however之后几乎没有解释和阐述。
  关于mistakes的定义可以考虑放在前面，这是讨论的大框架呀。而且一旦放在前面，就会发现这篇文章最后讲的就是只有克服错误才能进步。为啥一定要追求一段的让步呢？
   总之，这篇文章的框架需要大改，语言倒是没啥问题，看的听懂的。楼主把文章翻译成中文，就知道是个啥感觉了。
