With the development of technology and science, social customs and ethics are more or less influenced, as the issue claims. While I concede that technologies indeed change our society as a whole and morality, I contend that there are other factors determining them.
That technologies affect our social customs is undoubted, which by improving our working efficiency and method we decline the fear for the unpredicted. (这句不通,我改了下Technologies undoubtly affect our social customs while improving our working efficiency and method we decline the fear for the unpredicted.) We need no more example than the case of sacrifice, a ritual to pray for tender weather and good luck by killing cows, sheep and bigs(这是什么) in ancient China, for fear lacking of this ritual is the defiance to god, which will bring about disaster. By(With) the boosting technologies of weather prediction, we cannot(can) foresee the weather and temperature one week or one month in advance, resulting in this kind of ritual rarely seen nowadays.(as a result, the ritual which used to pray for good wether is rarely use nowadays) In that case, development of technologies improves our capacity of exploring unknown phenomenon or area, which render(force) us step by step decline(away from) some social customs whose original intention is to praying God's sheltering.
Similarly, technologies improvement, especially the development of internet and telecommunication in the recent years, brings significant changes in ethics. First and the foremost, internet crime is the most obvious. By typing keyboard and clicking mouse, criminals can transfer momentous(这个词不能形容money吧) money to his account illegally or hack into others' computer without permission(进入电脑干什么呢?说完). Criminal may be anywhere and the only tool need is a computer link(connecting) to internet, which, in another word, decrease the cost of crime and the risk of imprisonment, and this tendency will of course impulse the desire of crimes, lastly causing the crisis of confidence and ethics to the individual, group, and society as a whole.
Likewise it is the example of telecommunication whose equipment getting more and more tiny. Nixon, as US president, installed the monitor system in the White House, whose kind of behavior itself violated the ethics of human right. What's worse, after the exposure of Watergate, US government as well as American society suffered the the most magnificent crisis of confidence and of course influence the ethics in America. In that case, development of technologies creates new way of crimes and in turn influence ethics.
(原来水门事件也可以用到这个题目)
However, according to issue, regarding technologies as a determinant factor is evidently ignoring the influence of culture and morality. Kant, a Germen philosopher, claimed ( as I paraphrase): there are two things unchangeable in every person. One is the blue sky over our head, and another is morality inside our heart. In terms of what he said, technologies cannot change ethics completely because world is not an existence of material but also the spirit, although they are overlapped, they each has their own cub where is determined by themselves. If not, we can suppose, with the further development of transformation and telecommunication, various traditions will be annihilated and human will share the unique culture, which is out of our inclination and cannot not happen if we are not lost in the lust of pursuing sophisticate technologies. Therefore, culture and sense of moral are also the determinant factors.
(这段终于开始论述determine了,虽然晓得你的观点是不能determine,但具体的没看懂)
To sum up, technologies do bring us convenience and therefore influence our social behavior and ethics, whether in positive or negative dimension(这个词不对吧). We should exploit technologies to improve our society and ameliorate our lives but not let them decide what road should we(we should) go. |
