因为我个人观点并不认同评论家,他们最多是bridge & ribbon,最多是 compensate the necessities of audience at times, 主动权在观众读者,艺术品是面对观众的。
TOPIC: ISSUE144 - "It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.
WORDS: 659
What is something of lasting value? It is the art works whose values have been recognized by people in society. Now that it is people in society that determines whether a piece of art work is of eternal value or not, critics might not seem to be relevant with it. However, both artists and critics have their contribution in this art work of lasting value.
On one hand, the [art works] are created by artists, and therefore there is no doubt that artists play the major role in giving society priceless masterpieces. The criteria that people in society regard an art work is whether the art work can move them or give them a sense of feelings in emotion. In this way, no one can replace the role of an artist in an art work. Take a musical for example, no matter how perfect the stage is decorated; how [well?][good] the service is expected in the opera house; or how many commercials have been performed, it is the quality of the musical that determines people's views towards it[这里有循环论证了啊,artistsquality-people’s viewslasting values(按定义),but artists play the major role in giving society priceless masterpieces]. That is to say, the quality of the art work is the core.
On the other hand, however, the role of critics in bringing in a priceless art work cannot be overlooked.
Firstly, the opinions of critics can give the artists feedbacks about their works, which can be the direction of these artists. After the work of an artist is exhibited or performed, it is impossible for him to [listen to views][opinions吧] of [all] the spectators. In fact, a critic takes on the responsibility to give artists some of his own idea about the art work, which in many ways is representative to [all the people]. The artist can revise his work according to the feedbacks he had received in order to improve the quality of the work.[例子杜撰,说理牵强。 为什么评论家有资格代表all the people 的意见?all the people 有没有观点?
In addition, critics can [promote the fame][不够中立effects or popularity 等] of a piece of art work through ways like publishing his ideas in the newspaper. Most people do not have time to view all the art works, and it is the duty of critics to advise them which art work is worth visiting. If an art work is praised by most critics, people will have strong desire to [have a look at] it, which raises both the popularity of the art work and the possibility to be claimed as a [piece重复率太高,注意用词多样] of work of lasting value. For example, the works of Picasso are sometimes too abstract to be understood by most people. Few people will visit his art gallery if no critics published positive views on his works[这不是例子,是想象出来的,如果真是这样,现代后现代的艺术家不用活了]. Only after [a piece of art work] catches the public's attention can it be recognized the masterpiece[不是把。。], and it is the critics' duty to make such recommendation.
Finally, even assuming that critics [play an imperative role用词多样] in the recognizance of a [masterpiece], we cannot deny that some of the great works have been criticized seriously at first, and it is people in society that make the final decision.[说理不好] In some situations, critics may hold the opposite views with the public; or sometimes the art work which [was not为什么过去式] accepted long before became popular and famous as time going. In these circumstances, time and people are the judges to claim the value of an art work. For example, when Wuthering Heights was first[ly] published, the critics did not [like][appreciate/accredit/admire/eulogize…] it because the novel was filled with [ideas] from the dark side such as revenge and hatred. However, as time passed by, Wuthering Heights has become one of the most influential novels in the world. The criticisms do not impede the novel from its success, and [the taste of people] in society nowadays determines [its fate].
Both the artists and critics [play their part] in the eternal success of an art work. It will be improper either to gainsay the work of a critic or to exaggerate the work of him, since lasting value lies in the people in society.
