TOPIC: ARGUMENT217 - The following appeared in a brochure promoting the purchase of local franchises for a national chain of gyms.
"Now is the time to invest in a Power-Lift Gym franchise so that you can profit from opening one of our gyms in your town. Consider the current trends: Power-Lift Gyms are already popular among customers in 500 locations, and national surveys indicate increasing concern with weight loss and physical fitness. Furthermore, last year's sales of books and magazines on personal health totaled more than $50 million, and purchases of home exercise equipment almost doubled. Investing now in a Power-Lift Gym franchise will guarantee a quick profit."

The author promotes the purchase of local franchises for a national chain of gyms now saying that it will guarantee a quick profit. To support the conclusion, the author analyses the current trends and features of Power-Lift Gyms. However, the brochure is not well reasond and suffers from several logical flaws.
Firstly, the argument is based on an assumption that the number of locations of Power-Lift Gyms illustrate the current trends. However, though it has 500 locations but no evidence about every of them or most of them gurantee
high or quice profit. Sometimes, the huge system of the national chain of Power-Lift Gyms is likely to have dangerous result from the large operational and adimistration costs. Even if we assume that the chain of gyms is making profits but there is posibility that the profit is high enough and it is hard to rise. That is to say, no matter how is the current situation of Power-Lift Gyms, further information is required to reveal the current trends.
Secondly, even if we assume that the uncorroborated assumption can be substantuated, the national survey the author cited is not enough to convince us that there will be market demand of gyms. Because of the development of home gyms and together with people's philosophy of recovering the simple and coming to the nature is popular day by day, more in-detailed survey is needed to verify the potentail demand for services of gyms.
Even with the facts that the sales of books and magazines on personal health totaled more than $50 million, but without conparison with data of other time, we are not sure whether the number is increasing or declining. Even if we assume that the sales increased last year, the author provides no factor that was playing the leading role and pushed the wave of increase. What's more, whether that factor would bring profits to Power-Lift Gyms is dubious. Furthermore, the author says that the purchases of home exercise equipment almost double, and that means there are more people prefer to exercise at home but not going to gyms.
Furthermore, even if the investing now in a Power-Lift Gyms franchise will guarantee a profit, the saying that will offer them a quice profit is absoultly groundless. It is well know that the daily maintenance work costs a lot and the construction of new gyms need to spend a lot of funds to buy fitness equipments and to stimulate interests and attract customs. While it takes a pretty long time to achieve the contraflow of funds. Even without the guarantee of profit, how can we expect a quick profit?
In summary, the conclusion is not well reasoned because of an unproved assumption and impractical deduction so further survey and in-deatiled study are needed to make it convincing.

That is to say, no matter how is the current situation of Power-Lift Gyms, further information is required to reveal the current trends.(cost-profit)
