Do we learn more from people whose views we share or from those whose views contradict our own? According to the speaker, those who have the same opinion with us help more, while disagreement may inhibit learning. As far as I'm concerned, though undue discord may be an obstacle for learning, people still learn far more from those who oppose than from those whose ideas they share.
Admittedly, under some circumstances disagreement may cause stress and impede learning. This is exactly true when two co-workers set there foundation on different assumptions. In the region of social science, there may be no criteria on whether the opinion is groundless or not, which makes it nearly impossible to persuade one to believe in the others' assumption, which leads to the delay of work or research. As a matter of fact, the debate in such circumstances can help nothing but to make relationship worse.
Meanwhile, one can never truly make a progress unless he/she finds his/her own mistakes and correct them and that's where those with the same opinions won't help while opponents will. The education of children is just an example. No one could argue that parents and teachers should be responsible for each child and tell them right from wrong, for although adults' opinion may be quite different from children's and may make them unpleasant, it is our duty to correct their concept, check their unhealthy behaviors and change their negative attitude in order to lead a right and healthy life.
What’s more, contradicting views have certain amount of useful and diverse effects towards the discussions which may lead one's view of hi-tech, industry and social science to a broader and more insightful level. Usually architecture specializes in surface designing while structural engineer majors in structure design. Through intense conversation, though unpleasant, the architecture may come to learn how to make a surface design possible to be built and to save materials such as metals and bricks. At the same time, the structural engineer is able to understand the way to help to make the building more beautiful and to meet the customers' aesthetic needs while designing structure. As for political parties, it is essential to argue with different parties to consummate reasons for their own political views and find new concepts which may lead people to a better life and correspondingly increase their supporting rate. In a word, accepting disagreement would definitely guarantee one to a new and higher level.
"Every coin has two sides." From the discussion above, it is convincing to conclude that one should learn from who share the same view as well as his/her opponents. The willingness of listening to approvers may help improve one's thought and skill, and the courage to accept opponents' idea is not only a wisdom to improve, but a church for baptism and refresh.
