之前写的issue50,现在回想感觉有点不对劲,我的主体部分好像只是在说同一个问题,我的中心是不是显得很简单?不知道这样合不合适~希望大家帮我看看~谢谢了~

TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

How to improve the quality of instructions at the college and university level? The author claims that it's necessary to require all faculty to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. As far as I am concerned, the author fails to consider the differences among purposes of divergent courses which makes the suggestion proposed by the author seems too arbitrary. Therefore, the request to work outside the academic field should be more flexible based on the different requirement each course set up for their students.

For the courses of applied science, the most crucial goal of their instructions is to allow students to assimilate methodology in order to make them occupy the ability to solve all kinds of possible problems when they get to work. Thereafter, it is of vital significance for their professors not only to provide them the fundamental equations and theories from textbooks, but also to enable students to be familiar with various affaires they may come across in the future. To meet the needs of students, professors themselves should possess the experiences through, say, working in industrial plants, so that they can provide professional and practical suggestions and instructions which will bring about a great deal of benefits. For the courses of art, one of their indispensable aims is to help students create their own works to reflect the world. Obviously, it is very natural and of critical necessity for art students to learn about the world outside academy. In other word, faculties of such courses should work outside so as to provide their students with useful information. Take, for example, a student majors in drawing. If his or hers professor places too much emphasis on academic knowledge, like the drawing style of the 19th century, without providing adequate introduction of the dressing style and manners of that time, few students can visualize a 19th century picture. Just like this example exhibit, art professors must get out of the realm of academy and get enough information relevant to their courses.

For the courses of basic science, like theoretical physics, they burden their students with high objects, to solve the most arduous problems in the whole universe. As these subjects are so abstruse and abstract, even a tiny achievement demands penetrated comprehension and endless perspiration. In order to get insightful instruction and precise explanation, these students prefer professors who extraordinarily specialize in their academic world. Therefore, general working experience, which takes little time, probably won’t bring about any benefit to deeper their understanding. However, if professors spend too much time working outside, intending to gain permeated experience, they may be less familiar with professional knowledge or ways to make it understandable due to the lost of time which should have been used to review. Any delay in time may cost them the chance to find out universally celebrated breakthroughs.

In balance, considering the divergences among the purposes of courses, colleges and universities should give the flexibility to the requirement for faculty to work outside the academic world.
