In recent years, the topic of the importance of history is so hot that people varying from personalities as well as backgrounds tend to observe this same issue from diversified perspectives. A widely accepted viewpoint claims that it is nearly useless in guiding contemporary affairs to look back for an understanding of the past as so much is new and complex today. Although I'm not pleased with the feeling of being a critic, I would rather stand on the opposite of this standpoint and reckon that the stake brought by overlooking the precious experience from our ancestors would be too high to afford.
First of all, I have to concede that we are now living in a quickly changing society and the rate of change is still going up continuously. Our forebears could never imagine such a world full of cars, computers and cell phones, all of which result in much swifter lives for human beings than ever before. Though some discomforting problems such as pollutions and lack of resources are also brought by the progress in rebuilding the earth, no one can disagree with the conclusion that we are never the species which lead to a simple life of farming and hunting.
Nevertheless, even if our society has changed in deep, it would not be too difficult to find some traditions that have accompanied with us for centuries and still play a significant role up to date. During the Thanksgiving, turkeys are always the most popular main dishes; When the Halloween comes, the majority of the Americans are still willing to hear the naughty voice of "Trick or Treat"; What’s more, western children would be waiting for the mysterious gifts in their socks until midnight from Santa Claus in every Christmas eve. These old conventions are effective in entertaining people and helping them to relax from heavy works all the same, which may never be changed until the doomsday.
At last, looking back for an understanding of the past and exploring the unknown fields of the future are not mutually exclusive alternatives but can co-exist in a harmonious way. It is a fact that many old tools and technologies are outdated whose only value may be stay in museums to serve as exhibits, but we can not overlook the wisdom contained by these antiques of our ancestors who invented so much useful (at that time) skills in such an uncultured period. The spirit of creation will always serve as the symbol of human beings which is supposed to be remembered by everybody.
To sum up, it would not be a mission impossible to find something from former theories which can help us to reach our goals more easily. Even if articles would be replaced eventually, the spirit of innovation is the top glory of our race forever.
