It is generally believed that some people are born with certain talents, for instance for sport or music, and others are not. However, it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to become a good sports person or musician.

Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

Whether skills like sports or musical are more of innate or practice is always a controversial issue. Some believes that native talent is the most important elements for the success of those well-known sports stars or musicians, while others argue that sweaters weigh more. The latter view is obviously right on that practicing does improve the skills; however, it may underestimate the role of talent in learning.

The learning behavior is yet not fully understood by the neurologist or behaviorist. However, one thing for sure is that the combination of a set of specific genes may provide certain advantage for some individuals in picking up certain skills, as a result of natural selection. For example, Africans may be more talented in running because their ancestors have to compete with animals living in that area in running for avoiding predators and hunting for food. As a result, the particular genotype of the Africans may provide them a stronger energy supply system, which converts to a better runner. This is evident by the fact that most Golden Medal winners in the Olympic games have an African origin.

On the other hand, the role of practicing and training in learning and skill development cannot be neglected. Actually, every sports stars spend enormous hours in improving their skills everyday, no matter how talent they are. And sometimes, a lazy genius will be beaten by a hardworking but less gifted person. However, claiming that any children is able to be raised to a top musician or sports star under appropriate training is somehow against our daily experience. As Einstein said, a genius is 98% sweater and 2% talent, and we have to admit that the 2% talent plays an indispensible role.

Collectively, practicing and training may lead someone to a good sports player or musician; however, talent is essential to make them the best.
