The following was written as a part of an application for a small business loan by a group of developers in the city of Monroe. “A jazz music club in Monroe would be a tremendously profitable enterprise. Currently, the nearest jazz club is 65 miles away; thus, our proposed club, the C Note, would have the local market all to itself. Plus, jazz is extremely popular in Monroe: over 100,000 people attended Monroe's jazz festival last summer, several well-known jazz musicians live in Monroe, and the highest-rated radio program in Monroe is 'Jazz Nightly,' which airs every weeknight. Finally, a nationwide study indicates that the typical jazz fan spends close to $1,000 per year on jazz entertainment. It is clear that the C Note cannot help but make money."

距離最近的jazz club那麼遠並不能推出local market都被CNOTE擁有，也許他們的價錢低，又或者人們已經習慣了去那邊，那麼人們還是會去原來的那家；

Jazz festival的人也許是從外面的城市來的，并一定是M市的人；musicians住在M，是因為這裡安靜，沒人打擾，他們工作的時候還是會出去外面；Jazz nightly之所以收視率高是因為在週末播放，而平常人們都要上班

如果真的是因為jazz在M很popular的話，又怎麼會沒有人開jazz club呢

Fan花很多錢在jazz上跟C Note賺不賺錢沒有關係 。人家很可能是去國外買，或是花錢去聽演唱會，並不一定會參加club，更不一定會參加在CNote的

Fan花很多錢在jazz上跟M市的人會不會花錢在jazz上也 沒有必然關係

The following appeared in a letter to the editor of the Clearview newspaper. “In the next mayoral election, residents of Clearview should vote for Ann Green, who is a member of the Good Earth Coalition, rather than for Frank Braun, a member of the Clearview town council, because the current members are not protecting our environment. For example, during the past year the number of factories in Clearview has doubled, air pollution levels have increased, and the local hospital has treated 25 percent more patients with respiratory illnesses. If we elect Ann Green, the environmental problems in Clearview will certainly be solved."

FB不一定不保護環境：

工廠增多，空氣污染增加，但無法推出是不是由於工廠的增多而增加的；

即使是工廠造成的，也許污染的增加幅度已經是相對於其他的來說最小的了

呼吸疾病增多，但也不一定是工廠造成的
（4）
即使空氣污染，呼吸疾病增多跟工廠污染有關，也不代表FB是決策者，也許他反對，但政府其他人支持，他也沒辦法。

AG不一定保護環境

雖然他是環保協會的，但不代表他保護環境

沒有提供證據表明他上臺後會致力於保護環境

人們也許根本沒有考慮環境因素，也許他們很窮，現在只能考慮經濟增長，而FB在這一點上强於AG，那爲什麽還要選AG

The following appeared in a memorandum issued by the strategic planning department at Omni Inc. “Mesa Foods, a manufacturer of snack foods that currently markets its products within a relatively small region of the country, has strong growth potential. Mesa enjoyed a 20 percent increase in profits last year, and its best-selling product, Diabolique Salsa, has had increased sales over each of the past three years. Since Omni Inc. is interested in reaching 14-to-25 year olds, the age group that consumes the most snack food, we should buy Mesa Foods, and concentrate in particular on marketing Diabolique Salsa throughout the country."

只是關注它的增長，而沒有關注它原先多少是不夠的。如果它原來幾乎賣不出去，現在賣出去20%；想比起一個一直賣21%，增長率為0的廠家來說，還是後者比較賺。

The following appeared in a memorandum from a dean at Omega University. “Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented a new procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their professors. Since that time, Omega professors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes, and overall student grade averages at Omega have risen by thirty percent. Potential employers apparently believe the grades at Omega are inflated; this would explain why Omega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. To enable its graduates to secure better jobs, Omega University should now terminate student evaluation of professors."

不雇傭OU的學生可能是因為他們能力不夠，而不是分數過高

即使中止了，也不一定能讓學生找到工作
