貌似是蓝皮的新东方模考题里的吧。and连接的两个并列，religious fervor=competing with more -- clerics,空格是没有fervor的，BD候选；showmanship=fervor,他前面的空应该是正面的，appeal for 请求不合适，选B

重新解释下这题：
【a greater___ministerial showmanship】, 这空要么填正向的，要么填负向的，而根据前面的led to 一词，可逆推出第一空跟【】里面的内容是同向的。五个选项里只有A满足要求。考场上做到这一步就足够了。


考场外如果实在闲的。。。那么就继续分析：
因为even一句明确出现了staid, unemotional这两个关键性提示词，根据gre填空的逻辑习惯，第一空必然是这俩词的逻辑重复（可正向，可负向），五个选项里面，只有A跟B的第一词，一个是反向，一个是正向。根据led to提示的因果关系，如果第一空是“更保守的”方向的，第二空就得是“抑制showmanship”的方向；如果第一空是“更有个人魅力的”方向的，那么第二空就得是“支持showmanship”方向的，答案B被排除。



有很多种解法。不是每一步都要走完整的。考场上一旦做出答案——哪怕是你无缘由地一眼相中了某选项，只要代入检查后没问题，就赶紧下一题吧，没必要多想的
