Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Advertising is the most important cause of unhealthy eating habits.
Dinner is not only an action for havingfoods, but also a matter in social communication. There are many good mannersand bad habits in the dinner table. It comes out that once a people fell intoan unhealthy eating habit, it is very hard to give up. Many people turned tofind out the reasons lead to unhealthy eating habits. Some of them believe thatadvertising is the most important cause, which I don't agree with. In myopinion, one's eating habits is depended on the environment where he/she is growingup.
Firstly, all the habits are being built upwhen one begin doing it. Whether they are healthy habits or not, once they areset up, will not be changed unless some special purposes. When we try to sayanything, we built up the speaking habits; when we try to write something onpaper, we set up the habits for holding a pen. As the same as these action, when we try to sit in the table to eat something, the habits for dinner isbeing built. So everyone develop their eating habits in childhood, when theadvertisement will not make we pay attention to.
The manners may be learned by children fromthe people around them. Children watching and following the adults¡¯ doingsunconsciously, this is the way for children to study when they are very young. They don't have the ability to distinguish the right manners and the wrongones, the only thing they can do is following the adults in order to approachthe goal. If the people around them, such as, their elder brothers or sisters, their parents or grand-parents, are running a good manner in dinner, they willset up good habits in eating.
The events come out before or during thedinner time can influence children's habits in eating. We will feel unlike toeat if we are angry or sad, or paying attention on something else. It will affectmore if it is happened on children, because they are more sensitive than adult, and don't know how to control these negative feelings. For instance, a grown-upperson knows to sit and having their food even they are interested to the TVprogram which is playing during the dinner time, but if it is a minor, especiallyyoung child, it may can't help itself in watching the TV show. If these influencescome frequently, children will get some habitual bad actions which appear indinner time, some of the actions are already being considered as illness. Forexample, the children living with the quarrelsome parents, may have a highpossibility in getting anorexia.
Of course, people can change their bad habitswhen they grown-up, but I think the ones who are now feeding children have theduty to make a good environment for their children. Thank for the abovefactors, I make the conclusion that, advertising is not the most importantcause of unhealthy eating habits. |
