ISSUE NO.103
“The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives”
This issue tells that the study of history has value to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives. Yes, that is true. However, does the study of history only have value to daily lives? In my opinion, the answer is negative.
To begin with, there is no doubt that the study of history has its value to our daily lives. Studying history can helps we know the rule of the world. Knowing how does everything take place and how does every incident develop with time lapsing. We can figure out what to do and how to do everything in daily life by studying history. Admittedly, the study of history has do great favor to our daily lives, we learn experience and encouraged by historic figures and stories. When it comes to the individual level, the value of studying history lies in formulating the values and ideals of individuals and helping change another perspective on the past, the contemporary and the future.
However, we can’t ignore the value of studying history in the level of the society. In the foregoing I have declared studying history can help formulate the values and ideals of individuals. What about the society or a country, can’t the study of history work all the same? I think it is positive. Taking the development of our China for example, China has a history for more than five thousand years. Ancient China has many developed thought and spirit, for example the spirit of Lao Tzuand Confucius, which are very popular all around the world in modern world. With more and more Confucius School opened in cities like, New York, London, the thought and spirit are taught all around the world. Studying the spirit and thought of Lao Tzu and Confucius can help a society develop good habit and teach the people how to do and how to act.
Further more, the study of history can not only has benefit to the society, but also the whole world. The history of The World War Two can teach the world knowing the importance of peace. Reminding the world put peace at the first place when solving the conflict in different areas all around the world like Iraq and North Korea. What’s more, with the environment worsening, the study of the history can help people take the lessons in the past when we are solving different environment problems. These years our country is facing very serious pollution caused by the high speed of development. The same situation has also taken place in the USA and England, so we can study their development history and learn from them to avoid such situation happening in our country. By studying the history of the developed countries, all developing countries can learn their experience and avoid their mistakes to make the world becoming more equal and widely developed.
To sum up, the study of history has value to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives. But it also can take into effect in the society even the whole world. From the study of history, we can learn the experience of the past, and then we continue the good parts and take notice of the bad parts, for the progress of the daily life, the society and the world. |
