Finally, in the reading material,it offered an option to preserve the tree in research centers. However, the listening material pointed out that it would not be possible for Torreya to continue survival from the diseases in a long term.

Do you agree with the following statement? To solve problems present and future, is it necessary to understand the past.

History is always worth to review. It contains all the cultural smart and mental values of a nation. In this way, I firmly support the opinion that there is a necessity to understand the past in order to solve problems present and future.

Learning about the past stands for learning about the lessons. Everytime when people met a dilemma, they would think about something similar in the past and prevent themselves from doing the wrong thing again. Take Napoleon and Hitler as an example. In the past, Napoleon and Hitler won many victories, which led them to believe that anything was possible and nothing could stand in their way. But Russian’s icy defender proved them wrong. In this lessen I get to know a old saying that pride comes before a fall. Reminding this two historical figures, everytime I got prides I would not be too proud in case of failure sometime later.

Also, it not only can be learnt by the common people, when meeting the difficulties in the social projects, government must have been considered the case in the past in order to give better decisions to the projects. They should understand the past better than anyone else, In order not to doing the fault in the past over and over again, for their future plans lead to a way people lived in the next few decades.

Learning about the past means learning the social culture. Culture, which conveys the spritual values of a nation, is passed on from generation to generation. In this process, excellent works are remained while failure ones are forgotten. Those works are unbelievable useful experiences to the modern society. Generally speaking, people nowadays make new decisions and plans just according to their cultural preference. Even though they could decide it with their innovation, it cannot be denied that cultural smart from the past is also meaningful to the modern life. Most people get familiar with their own culture. Their life now and then have a consistency connecting with culture. Even solving problems people would using their cultural sense, that is, their history.

To nail the point, I suggest that we should understand the past, not only for the cultural smart, but most importantly is for the lessons and failures in the past. Better understand the past, better problems we may solved in the present and future.
