"To be an effective leader, a public official must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards."


This issue talks about what kind of ability an effective leader should have. There is no doubt that being an effective leader requires many abilities including the highest ethical and moral stands which are the basic abilities. But only maintaining the highest ethical and moral stands isn’t enough for an effective leader.

To begin with, maintaining the highest ethical and moral stands is the basic of an effective leader, for an effective leader is the most important person in a company even a country. The level of a leader’s ethical and moral stands determines whether he can represent the basic benefits of the public. If the leader’s level of ethical and moral stands is low, whatever he does can’t fit the requirement of an effective leader. In recent years, with the opening policy in China Chinese economic is increasing at an amazing speed and Chinese people are becoming more wealthy than before. This provides opportunities to some leaders working in the private enterprises or government, whose level of ethical and moral stands are low, to carry out the graft and spawned corruption which bring a great lose to China. Facing this serious problem, Chinese government tries hard to improve the leaders’ level of ethical and moral stands, who work for not only the government but also the private enterprises. If the leaders could maintain the highest ethical and moral standards, the condition of graft and spawned corruption would decrease and the leaders would be effective leaders.

However, just maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards is not enough for an effective leader. Leadership is also one of the important abilities that an effective should have. Leadership determines the ability of a leader leading his own team, company, even a country. We can imagine if a lead didn’t have a strong leadership, the team under his control wouldn’t be a unity and finish any task. Martin Luther King was a person who owned a strong leadership and ground broken for a national memorial to civil rights in America. His leadership made him famous and respected by everyone in America no matter black or white. Because of his leadership, he could instigate all the black people who lived at the bottom of the society to struggle for their right and finally succeeded.

What’s more, the ability of communication is also important to an effective leader. The ability of communication determines a person’s basic ability to fit in the society, let alone a leader. Leaders must communicate with his subordinate to show his thought and make his subordinate knowing what to do next. If a leader is capable except he doesn’t know how to communicate with the others, he will not be a good leader. Being a leader should know how to express his thought and help his subordinate finish their task. Besides, with the help of communication leaders will have a good relationship with his subordinate.

To sum up, maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards is needed by an effective leader but owning this isn’t enough. Being an effective leader, many other kinds of abilities such as the leadership and the ability of communication are also required and these abilities will make the leader perfect.
