Technology brings our lives changed rapidly, instead of new technology, many old traditions have disappeared without trace. However, I don’t agree with the speaker’s assertion that video camera will replace the position of written records in documentation. There are plenty of ways for us to record. Recording is not merely realistic note. And to fulfill a goal, we can choose a single one or both of them. Actually, our choice usually is the more efficient one or their combination.

Generally speaking, image and video lead to a direct sense of realism. As well as the most efficient way of persuasion, visual-impact can bring live locale to people. Let our vision go back to the “Discovery Channel”. While a cheetah hiding among the bush, following the track of its target. Only image have powerful convincing to the process of cheetah hunting: cheetah’s disguising, tracking and seizing the current opportunity so as to its attacking process of rushing out, quickly chase and final critical strike. Unfortunately, all these things happen in desolateness and nearly have no witness. But thanks to the video camera, most common people who may have no chance seeing it in a whole life can experience the most savage, original principle of the survival of the fittest as they were right on the scene by their own eyes. Comparing to the written records’ visual-written-visual recording process, video camera is obviously a better solution for recording this kind of realistic record. Its reality, vividness and visual-impact are the best proof of accurate persuasion. So to speak: the video camera has natural advantages in recording the surface impression. Reality, vividness and visual-impact with no sense transform can let our feeling for the events more directly.

In addition, though video camera provides a direct record of physical phenomena in documentation, however, there are much more beneath the surface impression. The reason why written records can sometimes be regarded as art, or rather literature is because this type of record can form an image implicitly with profound meaning. Words can be decorated with recorder’s idea; words can represents object’s inner world through recorders’ mind. Especially, words have a much longer history than video so that it has already been part of our culture. What we must acknowledge is that human thoughts handed down from one generation to another only because of the written words. Its grace, implication and meaningful always showing off human wisdom. The status of written records is unique and cannot be replaced.

Nevertheless, it is better not to tend to only one-side in documentation. Both of the two methods have their own outstanding features. And, they are not in conflict. Video camera’s intuitiveness, reality and vividness fit the quick rhythm in modern life for us to receiving knowledge and information directly. Written record’s tradition, implication and meaningful also satisfy our desire to be more grace. These two media methods can build upon one another, for the purpose of serving us better.

To put everything in a nut shell, we can’t definitely decide which is better or not between video cameras and written records. They both have their own advantages. What we must do is to combine them together in order to serve us better.

The development of technology begets many inventions which bring enormous convenience to the world. Their instrumental functions transform the ways people do things, tremendously elevating the efficiency and effectiveness of the societal mechanism. Video camera, among the greatest human achievement, is a technological miracle that is capable of recording what the eyes can see. Some thinks it has become a more important for of documentation than written records. However, I am at odds with this opinion. I believe both written records and video camera are essential as means of documentation. Therefore, they are equally important.

Admittedly, camera video, as an advanced form of technology, has many advantages which written records cannot surpass. It can genuinely record the occurrences which the lenses direct at. When firstly introduced, video camera impressed people with its capability to replay the past. There were parents using video camera to record an infant’s life so that, in the future, when viewing the video clips, the child could feel as if relive their childhood. Moreover, video camera always incorporates the function of its antecedent, audio recording. As a result, it is a highly accurate and explicit way of documentation.

However, this seemingly objective device is still capable of recording and presenting facts in a subjective and misleading way. Although the lenses can register what is happening, its span is limited. In other words, there are choices made about what information shall be overlooked. In fact, it is totally subject to the camera holder to decide what to record. He/she can choose whatever he/she likes to record and turn off the camera when it is not to his/her liking. Besides, he/she can also omit parts of the content to deceive the viewers. One case in China underscores the inadequacy of camera recording. Some police force inflicted violence upon civilians, which was recorded by a camera. Unfortunately, some evil hand cut and rearranged the sequence of the video clip, making it no longer a favorable piece of evidence for the civilians. Therefore, video camera cannot escape the manipulation of human beings despite its forte of being accurate and explicit. As a result, its potentiality of being deceptive dilutes its strength in justly recording and presenting facts.

Moreover, written records have some merits that video camera cannot replace. Firstly, it should be noted that the past historical records have already been preserved by means of written documentation. Reprinting should be undertaken in different generations to sustain these materials. Written records still plays a vital role. Besides, academic writings are preferred to be kept in written form. Some studies cannot be recorded through camera, especially theoretical research, such as morphology and law. In addition, it is incomparably easier to search for information in written form. People can google key words to find information they want. For instance, statistics can be easily spotted through search engine. By contrast, there is no search engine up to now that can recognize the morphemes or phonemes in a video. Consequently, people may not effectively retrieve the information contained in the form of video.

Video camera diversifies the options of documentation methods. Though technologically superior, it cannot take place of written records, since both methods have their unique advantages. In a word, they are essential when it comes to general documentation. Video camera and written records should be treated differently and utilized accordingly so that their values can be maximized, thus creating genuine and comprehensive documentation.

Does the video camera play a more important role in recording of the contemporary life than the traditional way of written records, just as the statement suggests? I can’t totally agree with it. There's no denying that the video camera is a significant form of documentation which recur people's life vividly, but not to the extent of being more essential than written records due to its disadvantages.

Admittedly, in many cases, it's the video camera that record of the past events accurately and convincingly so that people can get well know about the actual situation of the invents instead of being confused by some vague written records. For example, when there is a traffic accident, the video camera re-set on the road will completely record the entire process of the accident. Then when the policeman came to deal with the accident, he can easily find out who should be responsible for this accident through the documentations. Otherwise, only with the parties’ description, it's so hard to find out how this accident happened for that everybody is likely to emphasize the facts benefit themselves or that they may also not figure out the actual situation. Similarly, the video cameras also can record many wonderful parties and ceremonies for people that can’t be present. In the passing spring festival, the wonderful Spring Festival Gala Evening was presented to people all over the world with the help of video cameras, which unreserved recur the outstanding performance and grand occasion in the living stage. From these records, people enjoy the performance with their family and then welcome the New Year together. While it is true that we can also be acquainted with the circumstances through newspaper or other media, however, the written record may be unable to present them as vivid as video.

The video camera may be able to recur the detailed process of the accident, but how can it express the inner apology of the peacebreaker? Also, perhaps the video camera can document actors’ wonderful performance in the evening, how can it describe their inner intensity and excitement? In a word, the video camera can only record something on the face. For that matter, people's inner thoughts can only be described with the help of written records, let alone the significance of great events. Therefore, the importance of written records can't be ignored.

Furthermore, there are also many shortcomings in the form of documentation as video cameras. On the one hand, with respect to the price of a video camera, not everyone is able to afford one. Comparatively, written records are much cheaper and suitable for most people, with which they can also record and memorize their feelings and thoughts in a more simple and saving way. On the other hand, when concerned about the convenience of the video cameras, written records may have more advantages in most cases. The video cameras are too heavy to bring everywhere and we have to charge up them before we record something through it. That’s to say, when there’s a meeting lasting for long, hardly can the video cameras record the whole course. Conversely, taking a pen and some paper along with you in the bag is such a simple and practical way to memorize what we see at any time and the fact that most companies take the form of written records to take the minutes also indicate that in some certain cases, written records is a more convenient and practical way of documention..

To sum up, I really concede that video cameras have advantages in some respects, Nevertheless, the unique value of written records such us convenience and cheapness can’t be ignored. And sometimes only though written records can we express our inner emotion. In a word, both the video camera and the written records are irreplaceable forms of documentation and have complementary advantages, we should make good use of them according to different situation and various needs..

As an accurate form of recording information, the technique of video camera has being used widely in many industries. However, it doesn't have become more important than writing.

In education industry, the emergence of the use of camera technique is a cheerful additional method in teaching. When students have to read the book repeated and puzzle their brains to imagine some intricate conceptions, an all-around and detailed image may throw light upon these conceptions in an easier way. For example, a film records experiments about the reaction between certain chemical substances will help students understand the process and result of the reaction in a more direct way. By watching the video, the students may carve the chemical equation in their minds, which is harder to reach the same result by just reading the conceptions. Even though the effect of camera technique is significant, in contemporary educational system, the writing method still plays a leading role. Some major reasons contributes to it are that the book, an appropriate thing represents writing recording, is potable and cheaper to buy. What is evident is that a set of facilities is needed when people appeal to video technique. Unfortunately, it will be difficult for people who living an inferior life to own such facilities. In this case, cheaper books are better to inculcate knowledge. Besides, when people need to refer to some materials, books are more convenient way. They may bring the book with them and do any remarks on their books.

In political field, the major recording way is still writing especially in formal occasions. The writing documentation can record ideas in a accurate and complete way while the video cannot. For example, the contract, protocol as well as treaty are all signed in a form of writing; leaders sign their names and exchange the text with each other. The words in these texts can describe almost every condition and the obligations the people should observe in a logical and precise way. By contrast, video has advantages in displaying movements as well as sound, but it is more difficult than writing in expressing idea clearly.

In my view, people should not concern about which way is more important, they should care which can be more helpful in certain environment. What's more, a combination of writing and video may serve human in a better way to express their ideas.
