The author concludes that one certain kind of painkiller should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required while better give man other kinds of pain medication. He also suggests that all medications should be reevaluated in terms of gender. To support his suggestion, he provides a study which indicates man and women experience pain differently. The argument seems reasonable at first glance. However, further observation could reveal the flaws in many respects.


First, the report is problematic. It claims that researchers used the same dosage of kappa opioids to every participator. But what is common sense is that the average dosages for men and women actually need to be different due to their different physical characteristics. Therefore, the diverse performances of the painkiller are understandable and can not necessarily prove that men and women experience pain differently. Even if the participators really experience pain differently according to their gender differences, the number of them is dwarfed compares to the totally number of men and women thus the result cannot be apply to all. Even if the result could apply to all, there still lack of further information support for the assert that kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is needed. Since the study only take the pain from wisdom teeth extraction into consideration, kappa opioids possibly has different effect on other kinds of pain. In addition, no further experiments prove that other kinds of pain medication perform better than kappa opioids for men. Thus, it is presumptuous to give other kinds of painkiller to men randomly.


Moreover, the suggestion of reevaluation of the effects of all medications on men versus women is groundless and misleading. Without demonstration men and women are indeed feel pain differently, there is no need to make such a reevaluation. Blindly reevaluation would waste researchers' efforts, resources and materials.


Finally, the suggestion is unpersuasive and to strengthen it the author should include more studies which have a larger participators' scale and considerate most kinds of pain. Then give a guide to the reevaluation of picking up candidate medications in terms of certain kind of pain suffered from certain part of body.
