Tradition refers to several social factors, which pass on from generation to generation and have specific characteristics, such as art, custom, moral, thought and so on, while modernization is representative of industrialization, globalization and innovation of industries like art and science. In my point of view, tradition and modernization are incompatible all the time. On the contrary, there exist plenty of convincing examples to prove that both of them can be combined perfectly to come up with better ideas.


Of course, we must grant the disparity between tradition and modernization with the rapid development of the society, and even sometime we need a choice. During the process of progress in literature and thought, there are lots of revolutions to abrogate the old ideas and propose new thoughts. To illustrate, the Renaissance over the west in 14-16 century is a representative example, in which old belief disintegrates. The Renaissance is great innovation of human thought. For instance, the main characteristic of the literature during this period is to express secular values of human being rather than God as the center of the universe. Meanwhile, in our daily lives, messages and e-mail will replace the letter available for communication. Indeed, an amount of old ideas, old-fashion technologies are gradually disappearing in the following with new thought entering.


However, most people would prefer admit the compatibility of them, tradition and modernization, which can be evaluated by a number of samples in our society. For example, Tang costume is a kind of clothes, which discloses Chinese traditional flavors. Now the procedure of making Tang suit is modernized, and the high-tech material, which could let clothes more loose and comfortable, is widely used of Tang suit. We can conclude, from the example, Tang suit is the ideal combination of tradition and modernization. Meanwhile, the current music is more and more diverse, Raise Benjamin, who won the prize of the best popular singer in Grammys, mixes various types of music--classic music, pop music and electronic music--in his songs which are popular with both the young and the old. These samples above can come up with the idea that we can assure better outcomes balancing tradition and modernization.


Furthermore, it is worth noting that we could not make a hasty decision which is absolutely right or wrong between tradition and modernization. People should regard them with objective views. Tradition and modernization have their respective advantages and usages. Tradition can remind us of who we are and enhance the belongings. Spring Festival is a traditional one in which all the families get together to celebrate the lunar New Year. Modernization provides convenient ways of communication and many solutions to the immediate problems--a new vaccine against polio. We should be sensible enough to get rid of the dross and keep the essence.



To sum up, tradition, in natural, is non-contradictory with modernization, which is the inheritance, development and innovation of the tradition. Human being has the power to build a better world through the combination of both tradition and modernization.
