Issue48. The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten.

提纲:

1.少数杰出的人可以极大的促进历史的发展, 我们应该关注英雄。

2.但是，英雄离不开人民群众的支持

3.历史的发展带有必然性，那就是满足广大人民的要求。

1. Some outstanding ones can greatly speed up the progress of history or technology development.

2. However, making contributions to people of contemporary, these top nobles and elites cannot leave the support of common people.

3. What’s more, the development of society and technology has its own historical inevitability which is meet mass people’s requirements.

Does the study of history should place more emphasis on groups of people rather than on individuals? The speaker thinks so, for the reason that instead of the latter, it is the former who made most significant events and trends possible. Generally I agree with the speaker’s idea. Although the famous few can greatly propel the development of history, it is groups of people who determine the history.
First of all, some outstanding ones can greatly speed up the progress of society or technology development. With profound views and courage, some individuals make great contributions to the society, some of which even entirely change the whole world. In the field of science and technology, thanks to some elites who have the high intellect and steadfast determination, the old system of knowledge was improved again and again. Isaac Newton proposed three universal laws of motion which is the foundation of classical physics. These laws had not been updated for more than 200 years. It was Einstein who modified the laws and completely changed people’s views toward time and space. Then turn to the field of politics, there are also some individuals play important roles in the process of society development. Take Lincoln for example, without his wise leading and charming personality, the North might cannot defeat the North in the Civil War and the self system might remain rule some states of America for a long time.



However, to make contributions to contemporary people, these top nobles and elites cannot leave the public supports. There is no one is powerful enough to do some significant things in history without the support of the masses, especially in politics. Let's still take Lincoln as an example, whose success is due to he won the support of
the most American, especially the blank. At the beginning of the Civil War, the South also won many battles. But what changed the situation of the war was the issuing
of Homestead Act and Emancipation Proclamation, for which more and more blank took part in the War to protect their rights and interest. Therefore, even though some individuals played crucial roles in social development, they cannot exert their own will isolating the masses.

What’s more, the development of society and technology has its own historical inevitability, which is to meet requirements of the mass. Even without the contributions of few elites, the direction of history development would not be changed completely. In history, the role of individuals can be decisive at certain key moment. However, those individuals just speed up the progress of history. Without them, the development of history may be slower, may be changed into different forms, the direction of history development cannot be changed in nature. In Einstein’s time, with the development of technology, it has its own historical inevitability that someone had a new finding in physics. Even if the one was not Einstein, there would still be others who make the analogical contributions. The same to Lincoln, without him, the south may be defeated in the Civil War. But ending slavery is a goal that will be sooner or later achieved by mass people. Thus the most of history is still determined by mass people and their requirements.



To sum up, in the process of history, both the outstanding ones and mass play important roles. Elites can promote the development of history, but never change the direction of history. The most trends in history were determined by groups of people. Elites just represent the willingness of common people. When studying history, we should not only focus on individuals, but also on the groups of people, who are the real master of history.

楼主自己写的有点打架了。

连举爱因斯坦、牛顿两个差不多的例子有重复之感。。

其实我的观点和楼主差不多，就是唯物史观嘛。。。要说清楚这个，必须要说南北战争、废奴这种根源是由什么决定的，人民有意愿做什么，然后个别人加速或减速了这个过程。我自己说不好，这篇也没写出来。。。
