ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the
individual needs and interests of each student."
Maybe no one will object that education should not be designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each students to some extent. However, could the education really be effective only when it really be designed for the variety of sepecial need of some individuals? To answer this question, we should firstly discuss what is the meaning of “effective” in the statement. At least, there are two or three meanings (or even more) which used to be described as “effective”. However, after considering most of the common phrases, interestingly, do we find, at any cases, the statement does not seem persuavise as it is.
“Effective”, in some cases, is often used as the paraphrase of “economical”, costing little and porducing too much. In this meaning, we should examine whether a too much “specifically designed” education would produce much and cost little. However, clearly, no matter how the consequnece is, the “specifically designed” is by no means an economical choice. Maybe some of the people will claim that the development of technologies would kill so much cost execution of this blueprint. While this opinion neglect the activity of education and instruction is by far a work which could only rely on human. Maybe teachers would save a lot of time of the appearance of computer and internet. This situation could not justify student could grow up in some ways without any direction of tutors or less human involved education is better. After all, since thousands of years in which Aristotle and Plato living, people have found the process of education is largely filled with the interaction between the instructors and students. Even now, this way has never changed. Whatsoever, The more “specially designed” corners in a whole education system, the more human resources the system need. Maybe the noble family in the past could afford the tremendous salary account of the variety of teachers who try to help several children learn as much as possible. Hardly can we imagine the any donator could sustain the a huge system which contains bulks of the people.
Maybe some people may possible believe that more “specifically designed” could help a person may more easily become successful. And the whole system may raise up more successful persons, which could be called effective. This claim may overlook there is no definite way to help a people become successful. The successful character may come from a poor environment, while some miscreants really have a well educated background. For example, Theodore Kaczynski do really grow up from a family which take great care about the education but become a bomber. Therefore, there are so many unsolved quests in the education. And delicacy and exquisite does not suffice to attain any kind of goal of education.
Perhaps some people would like to argue for the benefits of "designed for everyone" that more choices in the education may help the children find their most suitable work., which produces more effectiveness. However, we have to admit the essential problem of education is how could we change a person but not simply catering the desires of the receivors. The relationship of the educators and receivors are not totaly similar with the suppliers and consumers. Maybe the works which a youngman really dislike is the most helpful. It is a well-known story that a Stuttering youngman just force himself to make speechs in the public in order to overcome the sick and the nervous feelings and finanlly become a excellent speaker.
To sum up, the “special designed” education may not be speical effectiveness, but has to face many special shortcomings instead. Mountainous expenditure does not promise the more adventure of success of students. And more specific designed the education does not benefit the growth of youth. And meeting the interests is also not always positive. Therefore, it is impractial to invent and operate a “special designed” for everyone education in a country. |
