Is imagination more important than knowledge whatever the professions or academic field is? The speaker claims so, because imagination which can inspire potential learning ability and interests of people plays a significant role in research and further study. Nevertheless, we cannot ignore that knowledge also exerts a momentous influence on any field of human endeavor; otherwise, only imagination can make no sense to creating practical theories and inventions that can benefit the reality.
Imagination, with which man are born, breaks limitation of human's capacity in the world. Though conditions and energy are limited in human power, with imagination through which people can possibly break through reality, our world develops and changes fast. People are more likely to invent something that has not existed in the world derived from imagination about the bright future, since hoping to change can become sorts of incentives that inspire intelligent from human brain. Having imagined of flying like a free bird in the sky, people invented planes; having imagined of bright night, people invented light bulbs; having imagined of getting information worldwide as quickly as possible, people invented internet. These great inventions which progressed much of the history and are still thriving present economy now are
created from human's wisdom that inspired by imagination, which illustrates imagination may be the start of inventing.
Nevertheless, only placing attention on imagination without basic knowledge, never a man can shape or invent something. Without knowledge, the basic stepping stone to further study and characterize anything that existing, imagination irrelevant to reality is absolutely invalid. Since imagination only matters when knowledge and the way to realize it is available, only with imagination cannot suffice to create something of lasting value in the reality. Like perpetual running machine, neither a man in history nor a man living today believe such machine can perpetually run without requiring any sources.
Because common sense tells us there's no such material and resource can ensure perpetual running in the world. This hypothesis of perpetual running machine does involve fabulous human imagination, yet without reasonable knowledge as its background and support, the only result of the perpetual running machine is failure.
Knowledge which as the highest level of wisdom of human kinds, can both work in explaining facts and create new theory in the future. Since human being with plenty of knowledge generated from generations has experienced a long history in the past, we are responsible for getting a full understanding of the knowledge in order to further study in our chosen field. After all, every field has its own authoritative theories and facts that support the phenomenon existing in the world. If we hadn't learned all about the related theory and its analysis, how can we reason it and
discover new conceptions of it? Hayek, the famous Austrian-born economists who has won Nobel prize, created his economy theory for free market policy can never intervened by any power of government
or magnets of other fields based on his plenty of knowledge concerning about economy, law, and sociology. It is ample knowledge, obviously, that makes this economists achieved his greatness in the history.
In sum, though imagination which helps people break the limitation of human ability is considered a consequential part in invention, knowledge that gathers intelligent achievement of human world is more essential in furthering study and inventing new theories. |
