Thanks to the rapid development of communicational technology, movies and televisions have adapted themselves into modern people's lives. A recent topic is arised by the sociologists arguing whether the two media should always show audience good people being rewarded and bad people being punished. Even some people hold the opinions that media should be diversified with all kinds of information, I still deem that movies and televisions should present audience with positive pictrues of the society.

To begin with, people doing good deeds are meant to be awarded to encourge them and to inspire others to emulate them. There is an old Chinese saying goes, good deeds lead to good results. Considering the composition of the movie and TV audience, there are a lot of children and teenagers whose sence of right and wrong, beauty and ugly, truth and lies are not competely shaped but are necessary to be shaped. If they have seen some movies in which the people doing good deeds such as a doctor donates his blood to his patients and in the end does not receive any rewards or even oral praise from others, our young audience can hardly value such good deeds. As a result, they will not help each other when they grow up. As is true in sociology that behavior modification necessate the reward from others, thus forming a posstive feedback.

Furthermore, bad people should also be punished in order to prevent other people imitate them. Take the teenager violance as an example. It is well acknowledged that violent scene shown on the television is one of the major incentives of teenager crime. Let us take a closer look to these violent scenes. Nearly all of them simply convey and depict the criminals or gangsters commited crime on the streets without being arrested by the police. That is to say, young audiences have no idea from the scene about what will happen after their misbehaviors. TV or movie should show that they are seriously punished by the law so that audience will learn to obey the law and not to do bad things.

However, our society is not movie or televisions where there are still some injustice not being punished and virtues not being praised. And movies and televisions are public media whose role is to convey true information to the public. But in this case, for the children and teenagers' sake, these inappropriate facts should be eliminated to prevent them from realizing the darkness of the society. Only through proper education and guidance can we make our next generation improve our society.

To sum up, movies and television should always show audience good people being rewarded and bad people being punished for the better brighter future of our society.

In the lecture, the professor disagree with the points stated in the reading passage that the best way to approach certain new projects is to assemble a group of people into a team.

Firstly, he refuted that a projects can be worked out by a team quickly by using an experiment conducted by a company. Since there are free riders who do not contribute to the team, the time a team takes to propose a plan is much longer. Another reason responsible for the low efficiency of a team is that there is no recognition of a team gaiud. Plus, the real contributors in the team hold the opinion opposite to the reading material.

Second, the professor pointed out that it takes a lot of time for a team to reach consensus so as to refute the statement in the passage that the team works quickly. Actually, everyone in the team hold different opinion, they have to get through many meetings to achieve a final conclusion.

Third, the professor argued that the decision a team makes can hardly be creative. There may be one or two influential members who have the ability to arise highly creative ideas. But these ideas are often ignored by other members. As a result, the ideas have to be droped and disregarded.

Last, the professor claimed that the team member do not necessarily has a better chance to shine. On the contrary, if the team got a bad result, all of the members will be blamed for their misbehaviors.

To sum up, the professor disagrees with the reasons presented in the reading passage in his respective explainations stated above.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students are more influenced from their teacher rather than their friends.
With the intensive competition in the modern society, more and more people are considering involving themselves in self-education to improve them. A topic about whether students are influenced from their teacher or from their friends has been discussed across the society recently. Some people hold the opinion that students are more influenced by their teacher rather than their friends. Others support the opposite. From my perspective, friends influence students more than their teachers.

To begin with, students spend most of their time with their friends. What students do with their friends largely decide how they think and their behaviors. One of the factors that contribute to honored students is that they simply stick together with other students who are also very talented and well-behaved. By contrast, students who are not performing well in their credits and who have tendency to be violent are also more likely to have bad friends such as gangsters. When students spend time with their friends, they usually do the things that they have in common. For example, honored students tend to discuss academic topics, conduct experiments or reading comic books which can also enlarge their imaginations. While bad students often hang around with their friends to bully others or even commit crimes together.

Furthermore, with the expanding number of students in the school, teachers have less time to pay attention to each of their studnets. That is to say, the opportunities for teachers to influence their students are too restricted comparing with their friends did. During the lecture, teacher has to face a big class of students. He or she can hard make him or herself available to all students. Due to the limited time, students can barely distinguish themselves or draw the attention of the teacher. As a result, teachers are not able to tell the difference between the students and have no idea about a specific student's academic performance, not to mention their emotional conditions. In addition, even there might be some time for teacher to talk with their students, both teachers and students are not willing to talk frequentely. And the topics of these conversations are mainly concerned with study. Comparing with teachers, friends have much more time to talk and get to know and express their internal feelings with each other. Consequently, friends are more likely to influence each other because they are more familiar and more inclined to open their mind to each other.

However, it is undeniable that some excellent teachers have the ability to encourage their students with their great and admirable qualities. But this kind of influence seems to become a minor one when it is compared with the influence of friends.

In conclusion, students are more influenced from their friends who they spend much of their time together rather than their teachers.

In the lecture, the professor claims that none of the theories in the reading passage is convincing because of the following reasons.

First, the professor refutes that the Chago structures were residential. Although from the outside the structures look like a native American residents, there is not enough evidence from the inside of them. If these structures were used to reside, there should be enough number of fire places for people to cook food. In fact, there are not sufficient fire places found to suppport the population. In addition, there is not enough room for more than 100 people.

Second, the professor thinks the theory arguing the Chaco structures were used to store food supplies is unsupportive. Since if people used the place to store maize, there must be something left such as maize or big containers. However, excavation shows no such remains.

Third, the professor disagrees with the theory that houses were used as ceremonial centers. He demonstrates that there are no pots used for special ceremonies found. There are only building materials, trashes and throw-away in the place. Even if there are some pieces of pots, they may be left over by construction workers.

To sum up, the professor does not think that the Chaco structures were used as a place to live, to store food or for ceremonies. He uses alternative explanations and supportive evidences to refute these theories in the reading passage.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In the busy and crowded world, we should not expect people to be polite to others.


With the rapid growth of the population and economy, our world is becoming more and more crowded and people are becoming busier with their own jobs. Some sociologists claim that we should not expect people to be polite to others. However, from my perspective, I still value politeness as one of the central virtues that modern people should own.

To begin with, being polite is an excellent quality that makes people around feel comfortable. Since human are social animals, everyone in the society are interdependent no matter how busy individuals are or how crowed the society might be. Some people hold the view that more people lead to more intensive competition and mutual exclusion. However, only through cooperation of each other can the society develop. （感觉这里的however逻辑上有点奇怪）Consequently, people don't have to be bad to others. In contrast, if people showing their politeness and friendliness to others, others will also appreciate it as a sence of respect and become helpful.Thus, being polite is rewarding for personal development.（improvement） For example, if a student is very polite to all his or her professors, he or she may accumulate more knowledge from different fields and obtain recommandation letters from them.（get more opportunities to learn and gain more help. ） Thus, the politeness helps in the student's future career. In addition, if an employee who is polite to his or her collagues and boss is also respected and welcomed by others. When there is an promotion in the company, the employee is more likely to get the votes from collagues and the support from the boss.

Furthermore, being polite is beneficial for the harmony of the whole society. As is stated above, the essense of our society is cooperation rather than mutual exclusion. A polite atmosphere is among the vital factors that contribute to the persperation of the society. From my speculation, both politeness and impoliteness are like a disease than be infected. Individuals' behaviors, either polite or impolite, tend to result in others' respective responses. For instance, if a worker in a factory often talks rudely to his co-workers, he will incite them and make them behave like he does. As a result, all the workers in the factory are in a bad mood with low efficiency, destroying the equipments in the factory or even get physical injuries. If individuals are polite to each other, the consequence will be different. (这一段写的很好)

To sum up, the expanding population and the growing intensity of work should not become the excuse for people's not behaving politely to each other. Politeness is a virtue that are rewarding to both individual and the healthier development of the whole society.
