How to definite the greatness remains a big question, for greatnessis a sort of value judgment, which is subjective. So I define the world"greatness" as things achieved by human which make greatcontributions the world in making people have a better life. Yes, it happensall the time that some influential masters are not be recognized in the longriver of history and their value is only revealed by human after they had dead, but we cannot deny the fact that there are still some accomplishments and thatare recognized by the contemporaries. So usually it differs in different realms.
Great people are denied by their peers and not get enoughattention from other people when they lived, and such kind of phenomenon is notuncommon in the past history. The field of such tragedy includes arts such as painting, music, and so forth, as well as scientific research. Because their vision is sofar beyond the age, less people can have the ability to see the flash point oftheir work. As time goes by, when more and more human expand their knowledgeand test their theory, then they suddenly realized that their founder of the theoryis right and so visionary. For instance, the great painter of Holland calledVan Gogh only sold out one piece of his picture and lead a miserable dailylife, and cannot supported himself financially. But nowadays the price of hispaintings such as Sunflowers have reaches millions of dollars. It is ridiculousbut it exists.
However, people in industry as well as politic usually haveanother kind of effect. Take JOBS for example, who is the founder of well knownenterprise of APPLE. He is recognized as a legend man, and I am a big fan ofhim just like other young people. His lectures in Stanford, his nerve to travelaround India alone, his invention and slogan such as " I live to changethe world", all of those inspirits a numerous amount of individuals aroundthe world and his fame is recognized by contemporaries. And another example is Obama, who is the president of USA these years. He exerts energy to improve the systemand devotes himself to a better future of American. And everyday citizens cansee his activities on TV and know that he really do a good job, which appeal tohis contemporaries.
So to conclude, it is not a right issue if what people do isdetermined by the evaluation of other people. If that so, where is theindependence of human`s behavior. It is not others` judgment but our actionthat play the decisive role in the degree of how great of the things.Otherwise, people`s behavior would be misled.
