The speaker asserts that globalization brings more merits than demerits, which I totally disagree on the viewpoint of the whole development conditions internationally especially developing countries, which actually occupy larger proportion of population all over the world. This article will inspect several aspects of social process including education, culture, economy and politics to substantiate my opinion.

Admittedly, many countries especially some developing countries benefit remarkably from globalization besides Western developed countries. Taking China as an example, GDP and financial revenue these years illustrate our economy prosperity and seemingly high life standard. However, it’s can’t be overlooked that Chinese income per person is so low with the skyrocketing house price and the impact of inflation that most of the poor people of lower standard of society hardly make a survival and obtain a sense of well-being under introduction of free market competition and profit-seeking ideology derived from Western. It’s not only because globalization is essentially a process of westernization and global expansion of American with other overpowering states but also due to irrational transplantation of institutions resulting from all-round blind fever toward Western of Chinese populaces and leaders.

First, with the popularization of English and advanced pedagogy methods being introduce to China, education field has shown great progress in language teaching by inviting many foreign teachers and audio visual technology. Also, our education has focused more on the exploitation of creativity and imagination of children and encouraged critical thinking rather than rote and cramming in cultivating next generation. On the other, we concentrate to more energy and time on instilling western cultures, histories and ideas through languages, education methods and history teaching, therefore our own tradition and history education is losing interests and even basic common sense on children.

Education, as a way to convey western ideology, also brings negative impact on local civilization even industrial development. As we all know, culture and art are tools of instructing ideology and economical invasion. Taking Hollywood movies as an example, thanks to globalization and high-tech transmission network, people of all countries can grasp the opportunity to appreciate impressive special effect in cinemas, but simultaneously, previous pure and integral local value systems are jeopardized and supplanted by overestimated self-individual interest and highly exaggeration of freedom and pompous individualistic heroism. With pop culture wins increasing popularity broadly, native ballads and painting styles are losing research and composition interests among contemporary artists.

What’s more, what accompanies cultural invasion is the bankruptcy or depression of local entrepreneurs and industries, such as traditional weaving, films industry and manufacturing industries. Although conceding globalization and participation into WTO realize redistributions of wealth and resources to some degree and China, as an instance, has made unparalleled progress in economic development with the assistance of free global trade, it’s undeniable that these fulfillments are actually contributed from large invisible exploitation of developing countries by developed countries. By engaging providing market, resources and cheap labor power, developing countries possess little advantages compared to those capitalists with scientific experience, critical technology and intellectuals. In allocation section, developed countries have to decrease their prices of products under oppression from optimum peers in order to gain the least welfares for survival.

On the aspect of politics, globalization, although truly brings much safer global circumstance, attributing to the interdependence of each country on economy and military profits, still conceals potential dangers and it’s due to their uneasy recognition that we’re enchanted by the positive propaganda of globalization and lose our critical thinking and vigilance. American government, as the most powerful country, interferes with affairs of other countries and maneuver small battles that severely undermine the harmony and living conditions of masses of both sides. Many small countries even have no speech right and their voices can barely heard in international conferences and constitution policies. More communication among countries led to more understanding and reconciliation but still hasn’t eliminated rooted discrimination, bias and discredit. With the progress of scientific researches of nuclear power, the whole earth will be exterminated once war starts compared to cold-steel eras. In sum, the whole living condition of humanity hasn’t been ameliorated in nature. How can we assert that the whole world has been improved by globalization?

In sum, the merits brought by globalization are doubtable under meticulous inspection and the demerits are obviously revealed in disadvantaged countries in madrigal status of the international relation situation. To reform humanity society, we should maintain critical thinking and vigilant altitude. By communicating as well protecting, referring as well as filtering, participating according to our own principles, globalization process should take more countries’ benefits into consideration in order to become the one in reality as well as name.
