The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten.
In the long history river, people in authority are always under attack, nobody can resist the difficulties in that environment without others’ help as the firm rock in fast current midstream. As for this, the great reputation and achievement should not belong to the well-known individuals, but be shared with the nameless, forgotten people.
The famous few who are both brave and resourceful perform a vital role in the critical moment to impulse the society to advance. On the contrary, without the famous few, the history might be rewritten or be delayed. For instance, in 1970s considering the dim economics and backward productivity owing to the former chairman’s improper strategy, the majority of the leaders point that unhurried revitalization and only unhurried revitalization can refresh the economy and productivity. However, Deng Xiaoping prudently put forward the reform and opening up policy after thoroughly analysis Chinese and the global conditions. Obviously, this policy gets questioning voice from every corner of the society, only Xiaoping and his few supporters hold on it. Today, thirty years since reform and opening up has seen the unbelievable changes happens in China, which failed the previous protester. In other words, Without Xiaoping, China might still be an impoverished and ancient country. According to this point Key individuals act more important role in history.
The faceless, forgotten people’s contribution is not as important as the famous few. They merely motivate the history forward, nevertheless the essence of the history does not transform actually. For example, Channel, as known to us, is an excellent designer, whose concepts still influence the current trend. To our surprise, she is also an outstanding politician and once persuaded Hitler not to initiate the World War Two for that the war must end up in Germany’s failure after detailed researching on the world order and people’s wish. Unfortunately, Channel missed the opportunity to meet with him and the ending of the war verified her correct cognition. As time went by, her political intelligence and identity just as other faceless people have drowned in the long history river, but the merit of their potential effect cannot be neglected. As for this, the faceless also devote significant contributions to the history and we should objectively evaluate them.
From what discussed above, we should pay equal attention to key individuals and the nameless, forgotten people as they both made decisive events and trends in history. Only with the water, can the boat float steadily and rapidly, and only with others’ help, can the famous few contribute to the history significantly and greatly.
Admittedly, the history might be distorted owing to catering for the authority. Under such circumstance, unluckily, history appeared to be discontented are the chambermaid of politics. George Orwell once said,‘ Who controls the past controls the future.’ The history descends to the tools for the government to rule the society. Therefore, the celebrated figures or the nameless, forgotten people whose words and deeds do not correspond with the expectation of the authority might gain the bad reputation or disappear eternally in history, in despite of their predominant devotion.
In sum, I believe the history was wrote by both famous few and the people whose identities had been long forgotten. My conclusion might be one-sided, yet at least manifold analysis for this question might be the best way and efficient of solving it.
