Should governments financially support their majorcities in order to preserve the nation’s cultural traditions? The speakerclaims that since a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated inthe major cities it is a have-to-do item in the governments' to-do list. However, I contend the culture traditions of a nation are more well-preservedin its rural areas rather than in the major big cities, and governments shouldnever leave out the support toward the rural areas.

I concede that major cities have some advantages inpreserving and generating a nation's culture. Think about Paris,we can easily recall the images of people spending their leisure time alongside the Rhine, and the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre. Thoselocations symbolize human's imagination of romance and luxury. Or we can take New York as an instance. The Time Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Broadway; all of those wonderful assets imply the appreciation of freedom, diversity and entertainment. So the major cities do help preserve culture of anation, and the speaker's claim seems reasonable to some extent.

Nevertheless, aside from the major cities, the ruralareas of a nation also assume an important-or even crucial-role in preservingand generating its culture, and are truly worthy of the governments' financialsupport. Firstly, thanks to the increasing trend of globalization and secularization, all the major cities in the world are becoming more and more homogeneous. Thereare a host of huge and beautiful buildings in New York, so are there inShanghai; there are advanced and convenient subway systems in Paris, so are there in Moscow; there are numerous artgalleries, museums in London, so are there in Amsterdam. The major cities aretend to lose their personalities in the modern time, and this trend seemsunstoppableInvesting great amount of public funds to preserve the culturetradition in the major cities, hence, are more like a vacant endeavor than apromising effort.

Secondly, compared to the major cities, the culture ofa nation are more likely to be preserved and generated in its rural areas.Without the bombard and direct impacts of modern technology and other cultures, the rural areas usually find themselves with a unique personality whichdistinguishes themselves from other places. Take Netherlands for example, the imagesof whirling wind mills and large fields of tulips and other colorful plantsjump into our minds immediately. Those images have created a solid identity ofwhat Netherlandslooks like and attracted millions of tourists from other countries. Outsidemajor cities like Amsterdam, the most beautiful sceneries and truly representative culture are preserved inthe rural areas. Thus, to better preserve a nation's culture traditions, governments all over the globe should support financially in the endeavors ofcultivating and protecting the identical features in the rural areas as well.

In conclusion, the culture of a nation is better preserved and generated in the rural areas rather than in the few major cities, and that is what makes a nation different from the others. aside from the big cities, the governments should ensure that the rural areas can also receive their financial support.
