Is it easier to be a success in the past than it is today?
As the pace of life is accelerated(这里感觉有点怪 又说不出来), many people are under more pressure nowadays(than past). Give an increasing fierce competition, to be successful (,) person becomes to an elusive dream to many people ( 想表达什么呢 两个动词 不明白句意). However we should not jump to the conclusion that it gets(变得?become) harder to be a success, considering more opportunities for success and a more justified environment to compete in our modern society.
作者第一段有提出自己的观点吗?我不太明白这段是怎么个意思
To begin with, it is true that we are facing more competitors on the road to(achieve) success due the increased population in our planet. However, the number of access to success is on the rise (risen)at the same time. It is hard to say whether it is easier to be a success in the past. Bill Gates have (has)found his way to be a successful businessman for his talent in computer science. People like him, might be difficult to accomplish such achievements in the past. As the society is developing, many new fields, such as computer science, biology engineer, appear in the (a)stage as well as the elite in that fields show up. With more opportunities, people can find the area they are good at much easier, therefore more likely to success.
Second, there are less (fewer)strings to limit people to show their talent to the world, as our society becomes more open-minded. One with enough ability can always find his way to achieve his goal regardless (of)his background. For instance, people without loyal background could never be the rule of his country once in the history. With the development of the society, Abraham Lincoln, who came form a poor family, became one of the greatest president (复数)of the USA. With the respect to basic human rights, everyone are treated equal (副词)and the competition plays fairly today. In that case, people, especially those who come from ordinary family, enjoy a good chance to success.
In a word, in spite of the fierce competition, we should not clam that people today find their way to success more difficult than in the past. On the other hand, adequate pressure might turn the best of us on. People might achieve greatness comparatively easier with more chances for us to become success and a more equal society we have.

我不知道 作者的观点具体是什么 可能有些句子也读不太明白
