I strongly agree with the statement that "the absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare". This statement is an acurate description of how the major people meet their situation in everyday life; and what's more, it reveals the inner reason why both the government and ordinary people consider democracy as a essential factor to the suvival of any prosperous society.

Our life experiences is a complex consist of thousands of choices we make every now and then, and we could state that a life without choice do not exist in our society, or, more exactly, do not exist in the biosphere. Any kind of life-form, no matter it is a man or the simplest organism such as bacteria or virus, will face many choices throughout its life, and it is the wise choice of an organism that ensures its survival while the inproper choice make the rest of them extinct from the earth. This is just the principle how the nature evolve from its very beginning and form the rich variety of all the species as today.

As a human being, we exist both as a biological and social individuals, and both the two characters involves many choices that we have to take from now and then. Especially as the society evolves into such a complicated mass as it is today. The choice is nearly everywhere.
We choose our community or political leader under our own bias; choose our careers by interests; choose our friends and lovers by chance; choose to be potimistic or pesimistic by no reason......anyway, life is all about choices, only those monomania considers it to be single-oriented and lack of choices. and even a monomania will have his choice in many situations.

And here lies in the truth why we advocate democracy to such a extent: that's because we have too many choices, only a democratic society could gurantee the many choices every citizen hold in their own perspective. The right to take free choices is at the core part of   democracy. A society without free choices is a horrible place, just like a prison. it deprived the innated right that every creation possessed and will inevitably provoke rebellion in the long run. That's why despotism hardly exist in our modern age.
  
In sum, the absence of choice is really rare from the beginning of our nature, and in a democratic society, the right to take choice becomes the requiste of its existence.

恩，写的还不错，但是感觉太浅，没有比较出彩的地方。

我的观点，作者的这个命题，是限于特定文化和特定国情背景下的。不必说其他国家了，就是20年前的中国，有什么选择可言呢？所有的生活用品都是配给的，哪有什么挑挑拣拣，能买到就不错了。在那里上学也没的选，用什么课本也没的选，自由接触各种思想流派没的选，大学毕业去哪里工作没的选，连结婚找对象都没的选，要服从组织安排！当然，现在就不同了。连是否发生婚外情、是否同居，都似乎是个人随意选择的东西了。

总之，是否有选择的余地，取决于两者：政治氛围的宽松和科技生产力的高效。

这个题目嘛,个人认为可以从哲学的角度来展开.
有选择还是没选择是相对的,一个人可能认为整个人生都无从选择:(无法选择出身甚至是否出生,)更因为对个人来说选择永远是有限的,一个人最想要的选择项往往不在选择范围内.这种人要么沮而另一些人可能认为人生的选择尽管是有限的,但总是有选择的,.这些人一般来说是乐观的.
总结:对选择的态度实际上反映着对人生的态度.

说一说我对这句话的理解把：
人们在生活的过程中,将不可避免的遇到各种各样的选择,可以举例子说明一些选择.做出了正确地选择,就是成功的抓住了机会.对他们的成功和顺利成长都有着非常重要的作用.而放弃选择,则往往意味着放弃机会,放弃了机遇,而这些机会和机遇,它们对我们以后的道路和以后的发展都是非常重要的,一旦失去了,他们就不可能再出现.因此,抓住机会,做出正确的选择是很重要的.
