240"Much of the information that people assume is 'factual' actually turns out to be inaccurate. Thus, any piece of information referred to as a 'fact' should be mistrusted since it may well be proven false in the future."

The speaker asserts that since that much of the information that people assume as factual ones actually turns out to be inaccurate, any piece of information referred to as a fact should be mistrusted for the sake of its possible fallibility in the future. While I agree that hold certain critical thinking towards information provided might be reasonable, it might be too presumptuous to claim that all facts should be held in doubt and suspicion since it may well be proven false in the future.

It is true that in our daily empirical observation, some factual information as they claim serve not as an authentic reflection of what actually occurs but a distortion about the facts. For example, the radical advertising campaign provide customers countless information labeled with such slogans “ trust us, we are conferring the most truthful information”. Later, when customers really inquire into the product’s function and usage, they surprisingly discovered that those advertisements are mere mirage of a sweet dream, which disappeared as soon as the people open their eyes and find what is the underlying truth out of the deceptive claim. Turning to the political realm, we find compelling evidence to prove that the elegant speech delivered by politicians and the information carried out in their speech are actually diplomatic rhetoric which tell us no more than a balmy lullaby to cheat electorate, defeat opponent, satiate personal ambition and gain power and dominance. Even in the scientific field where information can only be attested by empirical trial-and –error process and repeated examination, information fall sometimes as a result as outside influence such as political power and religious pressure or deficiency in some scientific methodology. Consider the case of people’s stubborn insistence on that the earth is the center of the universe or that the space and time are linear in essence, although reluctant to admit, we have to realize that once factual information accepted by public might turn out to have litter value attached.

But what I could not accept the speaker’s contention is that he goes too cynical to claim that since all information will finally be proved false, it is not necessary to credit any information as factual. This goes against the psychological and cognitive development of human being and will surely lead to a detrimental influence on those people who are discredit of all information provided. As rational individuals, we should realize that factual and false information are coexisted and sometimes interchangeable, but no matter how complicated this process is, factual information will finally stand up as truth through survival during the testing and retesting period. For example, we still hold number theory and some research result of outer space as the true mirror of facts. We still accolade the convincing information delivered in Martin Luther King’s speech that black people are discriminated and prejudiced and the end of the struggle should be that whatever the races, humans were born equal. We still credit archeologists’ work as valuable and revolutionary, although we have no exact idea of what the true scenario of past is really alike. We still buy Microsoft software and wear Levis because we believe that these prominent enterprise are fundamentally responsible for their customers as well their own reputation by revealing to the customers authentic information.

To sum up, although I agree that certain degree of skepticism and critical thinking will definitely aid people in making sensible choices and judgment, we should not go too far to claim that we should discredit all information since in the near future, al that we once believe will turn out to be false and deceiving. For if this skepticism runs wild, we will lose faith in everything we encounter and finally get the wrong way of how the cognitive process functions.

240"Much of the information that people assume is 'factual' actually turns out to be inaccurate. Thus, any piece of information referred to as a 'fact' should be mistrusted since it may well be proven false in the future."

The speaker asserts that since that much of the information that people assume as factual ones (one) actually turns out to be inaccurate, any piece of information referred to as a fact should be mistrusted for the sake of its possible fallibility in the future. While I agree that (to) hold certain critical thinking towards information provided might be reasonable, it might be too presumptuous to claim that all facts should be held in doubt and suspicion since it may well be proven false in the future.

It is true that in our daily empirical observation, some factual information as they claim serve not as an authentic reflection of what actually occurs but a distortion about the facts. For example, the radical advertising campaign provide customers countless information labeled with such slogans “ trust us, we are conferring the most truthful information”. (how many people assume advertisements to be “factual”?)Later, when customers really inquire into the product’s function and usage, they surprisingly discovered that those advertisements are mere mirage of a sweet dream, which disappeared as soon as the people open their eyes and find what is the underlying truth out of the deceptive claim. Turning to the political realm, we find compelling evidence to prove that the elegant speech delivered by politicians and the information carried out in their speech are actually diplomatic rhetoric which tell us no more than a balmy lullaby to cheat electorate, defeat opponent, satiate personal ambition and gain power and dominance.(rhetoric, balmy, lullaby, satiate, 这么多好词,我可写不出来! Even in the scientific field where information can only be attested by empirical trial-and –error process and repeated examination, information fall(s) sometimes as a result as outside influence such as political power and religious pressure or deficiency in some scientific methodology. Consider the case of people’s stubborn insistence on that the earth is the center of the universe or that the space and time are linear in essence, although reluctant to admit, we have to realize that once factual information accepted by public might turn out to have litter value attached.

But what I could not accept the speaker’s contention is that he goes too cynical to claim(go too cynical to claim是好东西,我记住了!下次再我的文章里看到类似的句型不要见怪哟!) that since all information will finally be proved false, it is not necessary to credit any information as factual. This goes against the psychological and cognitive development of human being and will surely lead to a detrimental influence on those people who are discredit of all information provided. As rational individuals(beings), we should realize that factual and false information are coexisted and sometimes interchangeable(你想要说互相转换吧,interchangeable是互相交换的意思,interconvertible才是互换的意思,刚查的字典!哈哈!), but no matter how complicated this process is, factual information will finally stand up as truth through survival during the testing and retesting period.

To sum up, although I agree that certain degree of skepticism and critical thinking will definitely aid people in making sensible choices and judgment, we should not go too far to claim(我又记住了一个好句型)that we should discredit all information since in the near future, al that we once believe will turn out to be false and deceiving. For if this skepticism runs wild, we will lose faith in everything we encounter and finally get the wrong way of how the cognitive process functions.

我提一些内容和结构上的意见,从这个题目的要求来看,重点似乎应该放在第二部分,即any piece of information referred to as a 'fact' should be mistrusted since it may well be proven false in the future。

It is true that in our daily empirical observation(s??), some factual information as they claim (does not)serve not as an authentic reflection of what actually occurs but a distortion about the facts. (分论点,先让步,好句子)(举例,没有废话,好!)For example, the radical advertising campaign provide customers countless information labeled with such slogans “ trust us, we are conferring the most truthful information”. Later, when customers really inquire into the product’s function and usage, they surprisingly discovered that those advertisements are mere mirage of a sweet dream, which disappeared as soon as the people open their eyes and find what is the underlying truth out of the deceptive claim. (这个生活上的例子我觉得有问题,I think, the key of this point is that the information people assume as being factual turns out to be inaccurate. 要支持你的观点应该是消费者认为是factual的后来又变成inaccurate的了,你没有提到,只是说卖方的意见)(前后用first, second, finally分开会跟好)Turning to the political realm, we find (another)compelling(多余) evidence to prove that the elegant speech delivered by politicians and the information carried out in their speech are actually diplomatic rhetoric which tell us no more than a balmy lullaby to cheat electorate, defeat opponent, satiate personal ambition and gain power and dominance.(rhetoric, balmy, lullaby, satiate, 这么多好词,我也佩服ing) Even in the scientific field where information can only be attested by empirical trial-and –error process and repeated examination, information fall(s) sometimes as a result as outside influence such as political power and religious pressure or deficiency in some scientific methodology. Consider the case of people’s stubborn insistence on that the earth is the center of the universe or that the space and time are linear in essence, although reluctant to admit, we have to realize that once factual information accepted by public might turn out to have litter value attached. 我赞成全是例子,多有代表性啊,daily life, politics, and science。

But what I could not accept the speaker’s contention is that he goes too cynical to claim(go too cynical to claim是好东西,可以表示盲目,极端吗? that since all information will finally be proved false, it is not necessary to credit any information as factual. (抓住了the complexity of the issue,我认为)This goes against the psychological and cognitive development of human being and will surely lead to a detrimental influence on those people who are discredit of all information provided. 如果是我就会在humanity下手的)For example, we still hold number theory and some research result of outer space as the true mirror of facts. 可以举人性的例子,反面的可以discrimination, war, poverty, hungry, homeless, crime, which stem from human nature, such as self-interest, and greedy. 。

To sum up, although I agree that certain degree of skepticism and critical thinking will definitely aid people in making sensible choices and judgment, we should not go too far to claim(我又记住了一个好句型,me too)that we should discredit all information since in the near future, al that we once believe will turn out to be false and deceiving. For if this skepticism runs wild, we will lose faith in everything we encounter and finally get the wrong way of how the cognitive process functions.
