很不好意思,题目忘贴上去了。该打
“ Imaginative works such as novels, plays, films, fairy tales, and legends present a more accurate and meaningful picture of human experience than do factual accounts. Because the creators of fiction shape and focus reality rather than report it literally, their creations have a more lasting value.”
Have imaginative works, such as art masterpieces and literature creation, presented a more lasting value to our human beings with contrast with those factual accounts? As I see some truth in the negative answers, my reply to this controversy issue is positively “yes”, for the simple reason that imaginative works, combined with the creators’ intelligent endeavor and originative modification of reality, in great degree reflect the truth in a higher level, which earns a lasting value.
Admittedly, the factual recordings, especially those concerned about historical events, are indispensable in our life if only to supply objective and reliable proof for those historians to have a clear speculation about the past eras and for us to have an idea of what has happened in our past in order to learn form it. It is true that in this respect the factual accounts own an excessive role thanks to its literal and seemingly infallible depiction. This role, however, is limited. For one thing, few people would be interested in reading such monotonous and insipid literal according, needless to say, enjoying it Of course, the historians are exceptions who are compelled to do so by their profession needs. For another, even for the historians, such a literal compile of specific details is useful only to the extent to substantiate a certain event. Once the aim is attained, the factual account would again be left behind and even ignored forever, for the reason that the things that the historians, along with the modern citizens, really care most are not to grasp the specific details of past events, but to probe the underlying and innate emotion, attitude, and traditions people enjoyed at that time. The attainment of this goal, however, is due to the research of imaginative works.
As we all know, what characterize almost all imaginative works, such as novels and operas, are their creators’ intelligent modifying of the factual realities. It is just this modification that tells them apart from the literal according, and at the same time links them with the reality world. This is just a rule no art or literature could escape, thanks to which the virtue of imaginative works are embodied and from which we could learn a lot. Novels, for instance serve to illustrate such point. Mark Twain’s novels afford us a vivid depiction of life in Missouri in 19th century through the eyes of a young boy. The famous novel “gone with the wind”, though initially aimed to entertainment value, eventually depict a lively picture of people’s lives during the American Civil War. To make it more impressible and unforgettably is the author’s individual configuration that interpret the specific events in the heroes’ experience and further embody the cherished spirit through the beloved hero’s endeavor. In a word, it is the authors’ creative and originative ideas that make the imaginative works own a more laudable value, not only to depict history events, but also serving to arise the emotional compassion and impact on the readers.
Moreover, thanks to its creative work, the imaginative works are more attractive and easily to get access to almost all people, either young or old, western or eastern. People could hardly keep innocent of the Harbor of Pearl after the film “ Harbor Pearl” is released, which is more impressionable than any historical books. Young generation would have a close investigation of what the remote western is like when they viewed such a nice western movies. In this respect, the imaginative works are irresistible to win a prevalence which adds to its lasting value.
To sum up, as I concede that the factual work does possess a role in researching, yet compared with the imaginative works, such a role is too finite. Only due to the imaginative works could further valuable treasures be found in human’s experience, of which the influence is indeed far-reaching. |
