Woven baskets characterized by a particular distinctive pattern have previously been found only in the immediate vicinity of the prehistoric village of Palea and therefore were believed to have been made only by the Palean people. Recently, however, archaeologists discovered such a "Palean" basket in Lithos, an ancient village across the Brim
River from Palea. The Brim
River is very deep and broad, and so the ancient Paleans could have crossed it only by boat, and no Palean boats have been found. Thus it follows that the so-called Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean.
Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.
This argument is rife with holes and assumptions from the first point of view to the last one.
Woven baskets characterized by a particular distinctive pattern have previously been found only in the immediate vicinity of the prehistoric village of Palea. Admittedly, it is probably only Plean people have made those baskets, but it is one of possibilities, not the definite one.
At first, maybe there are many of other debris of the baskets buried elsewhere which are still undiscovered, so these woven baskets have been made by other people besides Paleans. There is another option that the Palean people bargained or bought those woven baskets from people living far away. Furthermore it is ambiguity of the quantity of the woven baskets discovered, if it is too minus, which couldn’t corroborate the conclusion too.
Similarly, there is logical lacking of the following deducing process that why so-called Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean.
Only a woven basket discovered in Lithos can’t verify anything, perhaps it was floating through the Brim
River from Plea. Even if plenty of those woven baskets were discovered in Lithos, which is not resulted from that Lithos people have made the baskets. The Brim
River is very deep and broad, but there might be a land way to connect Lithos with Plea, consequently the two location people could bargain, so those woven baskets were transported from Plea to Lithos.
The argument said there is no Polean boats found, but there might be many of boats discovered in Lithos, so the Lithos people went across the Brim
River by boats full of the woven baskets from Polea. On the other side, there were probably many of Polean boats in that time but they haven’t been discovered yet.
To sum up, woven baskets characterized by a particular distinctive pattern only made uniquely in Polean resulted from there are many plenty of baskets debris discovered in Polean, there are clues to verify there were materials made for the baskets ,there are many of evidence of the tools discovered to make the baskets, and there are clues for ancients to design the distinctive patterns of the baskets in Polean. To corroborate there were such kind of woven baskets made in Lithos, a far away place, it should be assure that there were similar reasons and factors with in Polean and there was no any kind of communication with other place where those baskets have been made.
