It is under heated discussion whether a nation should arrange students to study the same national curriculum before college. To make a conclusion, we must check the supporting evidence and opinions as well as the oppsite ones.
Those who are in favor of national curriculum mainly argue that same curriculum is the basis of justice and is better for the college and society as well to select applicants. Students, regardless of their origins, races, colors, sexes, and so on, should have equal access to knowledge. And a same national curriculum fits this idea well. Also, it would save efforts and costs in comparasion with various curriculums in different regions, which does not need various training for qualified teachers and different facilities. Besides, colleges could be eased from the difficulty facing students of different knowledge backgroud.
However, others disagree, including myself. Does equal educational opportunity means the same national curriculum? What about different talents and interests of the students? How can justice be carried out with no regard to students' differences? And it is same with the differences of different regions. Besides, it is important for college and society to select and arrange students, but in no circumustance would a easy proccess be weighted more than the well-off of the whole, especially when human intellegence and technology these days have been developed to such a digree . It is tedious to cut human foot to fit in the shoes of a selecting proccess. And concerning the costs and efforts, regional curriculum might better use the local sources. For example, my hometown is rich in water and have a lot of spots with mountains and lakes. I would hardly forget the swimming and climbing lessons in my high school which not only build up our body but also teach me the history and geography of my city with little cost.
In conclusion, I think a nation should not make such requirements to students as to study the same national curriculum before college. When it has no just basis, nation have no standing to make such regulations. And there is no sign for such a demand as far as I can see.
