新GRE阅读36套  第2套第8题（长阅读）

题目感觉很怪异，读不懂呀~~ （阅读太长了，上不了）

8. It can be inferred from the passage that in
animals less intelligent than the mammals
discussed in the passage   (感觉好想缺了什么)
(A) past experience is less helpful in ensuring survival
(B) attention is more highly focused
(C) muscular coordination is less highly developed
(D) there is less need for competition among species
(E) environment is more important in establishing
   the proper ratio of prey to predator

给的答案是A，但我在文中没有发现 is less helpful  的表述呀，难道重点是infer？？？

求高人指点！！

文章是问那些动物不如不如哺乳动物聪明。
答案在 One meaning of intelligence is the way in which these images and other alertly searched information are used in the context of previous experience.

嗯，谢谢斑竹，解答很合理和彻底，但我还是对这个题的题目很迷惑，怎么理解题目呢，没感觉它在提问题，更像一个完整的句子，后面再遇到这种问题，怎么办呢，再求指点~~~

intelligence就是文章的KW，满眼都是怎么找呢？

这题我也很困惑，文中确实提到了intelligence和past experience的关系，不过没有提到animals less intelligent than the mammals discussed这个比较级。
只能这样理解 One meaning of intelligence is the way in which these images and other alertly searched information are used in the context of previous experience.这句话是针对所有动物的，而than这个比较级后面可以替换为任何动物，选项依然成立，比如the hungry lizard
看到比较级就本能的在原文找less than mammals比较级，悲催的题没做对还浪费了海量时间。。。

这里说是根据题目中的“animals less intelligent than the mammals"要联想到lizard(reptile)，然后原文定位lizard，往后看，using past events as a framework, the large mammal predator…

其实仔细看lizard的前半句，由”than, say“比较级可知predator有比lizard高级的意识，也就是lizard is less intelligent than predator，这样就可以理解题目问“animals less intelligent than the mammals"的合理性了。

然后，将lizard之前的the predator与lizard之后的the large mammal predator看作是一个东西，都是题目中的mammal。既然lizard is less intelligent than predator/mammal，后者using past events as a framework，所以可合理推出前者达不到这一境界，故对其来说past experience is less helpful.
