Anatomy : the brain
Listen to part of the lecture in an anatomy class.
I‘ve brought in a picture of human brain today, which(听成where) we are going to look at and discuss in detail. The parts of the brain that we are going talk about today are clearly labeled. The brain is like our command center for all our daily functions and allows us to cope with our environment. How we communicate with words, actions, thoughts and feelings are all centered in the brain. Some researchers believe that the brain is so complex and mysterious that we will never be able to fully understand it. Some have even referred to it as the little black box like those found on the plane that contains all the critical and highly confidential information of the flight. That being said,
there are parts of the brain the we do know about, like the part listed on the diagram, and that we also know the functions that each brain to make our body work. It’s easier to think of the brain as 3 connected parts:
cerebrum(大脑), brainstem（脑干）, and cerebellum（小脑）

Let’s start off with the brainstem which is found in the bottom of the brain, joints(连接) the XXX to the spinal cord（脊髓）. The brainstem has important role because it controls lots of critical functions including respirations(呼吸作用), regulation of heart rhythms, basic aspect of sound localization which allows us to identify the origin of the detected(检测到的) sound and reflexes(条件反射).
As you can see on the diagram，the brain stem includes the midbrain, the ponds and
medulla(脑髓). These allows functions such as the movements of our eyes and mouth passing on sensory(感知的) massagers like hot, pain, loud, and other functions such as huger, consciousness, body temperature, sneezing, coughing（咳嗽）, vomiting （呕吐）and swallowing.

Next we‘ll look at the 2th large part of the brain: the SB. It is located at the lower back of the head and it attaches to the brain stem. It is made up of 2 hemispheres and its functions are to control a complex
voluntary(自愿的) motor functions(运动机能) such as walking, balance and posture.

The third and the largest part of our brain is the cerebellum. Its associations are conscious thought, movement and sensations such as touch, vision, hearing, judgment, reasoning, problem solving and motions. It is made up of 2 halves(半个，没听出来) with each half controling the opposite of the body. The CC connects the 2 halves and delivers massages between them.

There are 4 lobes(脑叶) that make up the cerebrum :
frontal, temporal, parietal, and the occipital（这个不用听懂也没关系）The F is located in the front the head and it is involved in personality, characteristics and movement. The P is the middle part of the brain and helps you identify objects, understand spatial relationships like where your body is compared to objects around you. It also helps make a meaning pain and touch in the body. The O allows you to see and it’s located in the back of the brain. Finally, the T assists with memory, speech and sense of smell and it’s found at the site of (在。。旁边)brain.

The average weight of the adult human brain is anywhere between 1 and 1.5 kilograms. Some people say that we only use 10% of our brain but this is just a myth. In fact we use our entire brain. That being said we can claim that most people only use very small fraction of the cognitive potential of their brain. Different cultures have used several methods to improve their cognitive potential such as reading, education, puzzle solving and critical thinking. I hope this brief introduction to the brain helps you understand the brain and its different functions.
