Expeditious Handling Requests:
The VSC has always been strict with respect to approving requests for special processing. Nevertheless, we do approve over 20 cases each week for expeditious handling. Individuals seeking expeditious handling must call the Center to request an expedite at (802) 527-4913.
NOTE: Remember, when an expedite is granted, all other applicants/petitioners wait a little longer for adjudication of their cases.
VSC Expedite Criteria: The VSC has established a uniform set of criteria for expeditious handling of cases that is applied to all such requests. The merits of the requests are the sole determining factors in arriving at a decision. This is necessary as "expedites" are not only expensive to process, but they also delay the adjudication of all other cases being processed in chronological order of receipt. The VSC will consider a case for expeditious treatment using the following criteria:
When compelling humanitarian needs are present, as exist when a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident petitions for a relative (the visa number must be provided) who requires medical treatment, special care, or is a minor child who lacks appropriate supervision or security;
When a petitioner, through no fault of his own, is faced with an emergency, as is sometimes the case with nonimmigrant petitions for artists; when a musician, singer, or other performer approved for nonimmigrant classification is suddenly stricken with an illness and must be immediately replaced; or
When the BCIS has made an error in processing a case and that error has delayed the applicant's or petitioner's receipt of a lawful benefit.
VSC Expedite Procedures: Expedites may be requested either by direct telephone contact with an Immigration Information Officer (IIO) at the VSC, or in special circumstances through the local Office. In the former instance, an applicant/petitioner or his representative provides the IIO with information relevant to the form type and the reason for seeking expeditious treatment. The IIO will record the information and immediately take the request either to the appropriate Assistant Center Director, the Deputy Director, or directly to the Center Director. If approved the IIO will contact the requester and provide instructions for courier delivery. If the application or petition has already been filed, the Product Line Manager will assign a Supervisory Center Adjudications Officer to locate the file for referral to a designated adjudication officer. Congressional requests are treated in the same manner.
Good luck to you!
