There is no doubt that we often face some problems which we fail to figure out by ourselves. Consequently, seeking advice from others is a common way to help. We might consider, however, questions like whose suggestion is more valuable. In my view, I prefer advice given by older people rather than that from peers.
Compared to young people, the elderly with more experiences and information will propose wiser advice. Consider a student who is confused by the option of major. He is wondering whether to choose a subject leading to a high salary or to focus on what he likes. Then his mother tells him that he should follow his heart because once she had a similar problem. Having found she disliked business, she decided to change the major to art which's her favourite subject. Through many years' efforts, now she's a successful piano player and contented with her life. She owes all her achievements to the right determination to concentrate on what she loves. People in the same age, nevertheless, cannot have this kind of story so all they can offer is just ideas narrower than older's.
Another advantage the elder own is that they are more considerate than youth. Having come through so much, older people form a mature pattern of thinking. Yet peers probably make a rush decision just for fun. For example, one day your friend Mary invites you to take vacation with her because she just saw an attractive poster of Beijing. Before starting your trip, you need to make a plan. Your parents inform you to pay attention to the weather and to bring enough money. Besides, they also require you to call them at least one time a day to make sure whether you are safe. While Mary only reminds you about the camera so that you
two can take a lot of pictures.
Admittedly, exceptions do exsit. When it comes to innovation, older people might give their ways to the youth. Lacking creativeness, theye are critized to be conventional. On the contrary, youngers, full of passion and energy, always want to change the world. The hot-blooded youth, however, might igonre and risk the benefit of the group by conducting their originality. As a result, it's not realistic to follow the youth even they do have some new ideas.
In conclusion, in spite of their overcaution, I support that the elder's advice is of greater value than peer's due to their experience and completeness.
