Educational institutions should activelyencourage their students to choose fields of study in which jobs are plentiful.


In my opinion, I can’t agree with thestatement that “Education institutions should actively encourage their studentto choose field of study in which jobs are plentiful” and my reason comes asfollow.

Admittedly, choose field of study in whichjobs are plentiful might benefit the students because of the promoting jobmarket. We can’t deny the fact that many educational institutions aim for thehigh employee rate of their students as their mission as well as advertisementto attract more students. And for the student, finding job more quickly willsurely enhance their survival ability by their own and star to contribute theirworkforce to the development of the society.

All of the mentions above seem to be nice, however,many people fail or neglect to discovery the fallacies of such theory that encouragethe students to learn the fields which has a bigger job requirement. It recallsme the situation in China back to the period of the very foundation of thecountry. It was 1950s when workforce were greatly XX, the students have nochoice but follow the instruction of the government to learn the fields whatthe country need. So this generation was forced to give up their dreams ofbecoming painters, musician, and dancer to be shaped into a part of machine tofulfill the country’s need. But those days are gone, and choices, theopportunity to change one’s life, have been presented to the students nowadays.It is vital to encourage the student to seek for their own interesting and owndesires, to help them to search their heart for that they really want to becomeinstead of giving then the instruction to the need of job market. Moreover, withthe rapid development of modern society, I believe there’s few educationinstitutions can accurately predict the job requirement in 4 or 5 years fromnow when their students graduate, so it is irresponsible for these institutionsto actively encourage their student to choose field simply following the jobmarket.

On the basis, the fundamental idea weshould discuss is the real purpose of education. Like the American educationalist Robert Maynard Hutchins oncesaid, “What is education? It is to help students to think on their own, make judgmentand work as responsible citizens”, the real goal of education is to helpthe person who receives it to become a thinker than a doer. Careful and logicalthinking should be performed according the situation of both inside and outsideof the person by the ability given by education, and then we may call himhuman. It may encounter failure, but since “man errs so long as he strives”, weshould value this as a treasure of the education.

To sum up, the field of study should bechosen by the students themselves instead of being encouraged by education institution.
