issue 55 competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education.
       
Some people assert that climate of competition for high grades in all levels of schools entails limitation of the quality of education. However, in my observation, though, to a certain point, competition for high grades cumbers the quality of education, it is important for primary levels of education because grades are main way of assessing the quality of learning.

Before college, all students are always required to attend the same courses so that we can get to know the ability of learning of the students under the same learning conditions. However, after college, students often take diverse courses except just a little of courses required by one's major, so it is rather difficult to comment on the quality of learning by scores. For example, students x and y both take the course of history, but x takes history only while y takes four other courses at the same time, and the term ends with one "A" for x and five "B" for y. Then who can determine which one is better than the other only by grades? In fact, if too much emphasis is put on the competition for high scores, it will force students to take fewer courses to get high grades instead of to learn more subjects.

Some people may argue that contents of tests in formal education cannot reflect the quality of learning. Yes, it should be admitted that any form of test is not able to assess all aspects of student’s ability of learning. However, tests do reflect some of those aspects, and the more important is that exams can reveal the adaptability of students. One of my high school teachers once talked to us 'you are free to decry the exam as meaningless. But if you failed it, then one thing is certain that you lack of adaptability to the exam system and the circumstance at hand, which is one of the most essential abilities you must acquire.'

Another important role competition for high grades plays in education is to cultivate the concept of competition. Our society is a competing one: people have to compete for opportunities of education, vie for a position to earn a living, and struggle for improvement and fulfillment. As a result, it is crucial for education to nourish the idea of competition in students, which can be carried out by encouraging them to compete for high scores.

In a word, though competition for high grades is not all good, it is fairly useful for assessing the quality of learning especially at the levels of education before college and of great importance for cultivating mind of competition.

个人认为:
2段写的有点离题,那个例子也不是很好,
4段应该重点写一下,
另外还可以写写考试和老师的关系,比如掌握学生的学习情况,更好的改进教学
生命的意义在于超越!

正好楼长挖了个坑。我就把字节的文章帖出来。
我的想法可能有点诡异,我想如果一个grade system 可以包括学生生活的大多方面,并且行之有效,那么这样的system是成功的。下面的是我的文章
A ,To achieve high grade in school does not merely mean get higher marks in examination , it has a comprehensive meaning which include high quality in study ,social work as well as relationship with others.
B , Admittedly ,current education system in some country do limit into only one aspect of students performance in school :their ability to cope with boring examination.
C ,Because a broad pursing in school improve the students ability ,there is no excuse to announce that the grade system should be cancelled.
D, the benefit of grade.

In some countries ,people as well as students have some mistaken ideas about the truth of education .which in their mind ,only provide student of knowledge from the books .Thus , the students are keep their sight narrowly in one aspect :high grades in examination .If so , they sincerely misconstrue the grade system in school .

A well-organized grade system may exit in all the schools now days , which make a just evaluation in examination as well as social work and relationship with others .This grade system seems to be qualified to judge the students performance while in school .We should stress that this grade system may be one that may contain nearly every action that the students have done in school . It must contain the students examination ,their participation in public work ,their ability to handle different relationship etc. From this point of view ,we can come to the conclusion that the students who achieve high grade under such system will surely improve their quality ,besides the learning  quality.

Those who argue that to achieve high grades in school will limit the quality of learning may merely limited into one sphere of grade mechanism in school : high marks in examination Admittedly ,even some parents as well as some students have this mistaken idea about the meaning of achieving high grades in school .However ,it is their misunderstanding not the grade mechanism that should be changed to improve the students skills . Therefore there lies no reason to abolish such grade system.

If the grade mechanism is eradicated from the current educational environment , will it come to a good end ?The answer should be definitely not . Because when this grade mechanism disappears ,there is no other effective method to evaluate the students action in school .Furthermore ,such a mechanism has another beneficial factor that will arouse the students' passion in every sphere of school life The one who get low grades will be impel by his/her situation to better performance in the following semester.
To sum up , it is not the shortcoming of grade that will harm the students ability in learning ,but the public have some mistaken ideas about such system .A grade system may on one hand evaluate disinterestedly the students quality ,on the other hand , it can encourage students to pursue better grade and performance in every field of school lives which does not narrow in performance in examination .
