有关GPA的计算问题

申请的学校有GPA Calculator, 但是因为是5分制，写信问小米小米说“ If your school uses written evaluations or a very different grading system you don’t have to calculate GPAs, but you should remember to include an explanation of the grading scale with your uploaded transcript. And you might enter for example "Rated 17 on a scale of 20" on the blank line provided on the worksheet.”但是在那个sheet上面，又说“   Exception:   If your school grades on a system far different from ours don't try to convert to our system. Instead enter here，   only the cumulative ranking  and the Scale (e.g. 9.7 on a scale of 12).  If your school uses written evaluations indicate such with an X.”我就搞不懂了，rank不是排名么，怎么能举例是9.7on a scale of 12呢？难道这里指的是得分？？
